This week and next week (Mar16-Mar25)

Central QLD: Fun surf continues this week with Tradewinds easing into next week

A Large (1037 hPa) high which sits in the Southern Tasman with a broad area of low pressure pushing down on it, is slow moving at the moment.  A broad, angular area of low pressure in the Northern Coral Sea, extending southwards is maintaining good windspeeds in the tradewind fetch at the moment and that is leading to surf punching slightly above it’s weight.

Surf has been hovering in the 1-2ft range, with a heap of fun waves on offer.

Fun sized surf continues

Tradewinds do fluctuate day to day leading to subtle ups and downs in wave heights but broad coverage of SE winds through the Coral Sea should hold rideable surf in the 1-2ft range through Thurs and now extending into Fri-Sat.

By Sunday we should be back to barely rideable size as the Tradewind fetch dries up.

Low in the Tasman, but no surf for CQ as tradewind fetch dissipates

Further weakening is expected next week, leading to surf becoming marginal in size through next week, although it’s unlikely to go flat and may remain just rideable for big boards at exposed locations.

For now, there’s plenty of rideable waves for the next few days.

Check back Fri for an update.
