Easing surf now, as fetch aimed too far south for CQ swell window
Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (issued on Fri 25th Feb)
This week and next week (Feb25-Mar4)
Central QLD: Outlook downgraded as E'ly winds now mostly outside CQ swell window.
Waves have popped up above f/cast expectations today, as an E/NE infeed into a coastal trough/low off the SEQLD coast has generated fun surf on the CQ coast. Lighter winds saw good conditions with 2ft surf at more exposed breaks on the Burnett coast and tiny surf elsewhere.
Small, fun waves today
Unfortunately, the low now moves southwards, dragging the E’ly flow with it, out of the CQ swell window.
Fetch now too far south to be useful for CQ
That will see surf ease back through Sat into the 1ft range and hold at that small, just surfable range through the rest of the week.
Strong E’ly winds along a broad, long high pressure cell, squeezed by a large cyclonic gyre are now aimed up at NSW, with only marginal amounts of swell getting into the CQ region.
Longer term and surf stays small into the medium term.
Check back Mon for an update and have a great weekend!
