Fun SW swell over the weekend, larger pulse later next week
Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Thursday 11th June)
Best Days: Every day over the coming period besides when the swell bottoms out Tuesday/Wednesday
This week and next week (Jun 12 - 19)
Good waves with a reinforcing S/SW groundswell yesterday morning, but this has since eased with it dropping away into this morning.
A reinforcing S/SW groundswell is due into this evening and tomorrow morning, keeping exposed spots up around 4-5ft+ later today and Friday morning before easing into the afternoon. Early variable winds should offer good conditions at exposed breaks before the trades kick in.
Our good but inconsistent SW groundswell for Saturday is still on track with exposed spots due to offer 5-6ft sets with the chance of the odd bigger bomb before easing through Sunday and further into the start of next week. This SW direction will allow more protected spots to see a better spread of size and moderate to fresh E/SE trades are due to continue, lighter and more variable at dawn each morning.
Next week will, as stated above, see easing surf as the trades weaken a touch, which should see exposed breaks remain workable for longer each morning.
We've now got a good new large but inconsistent SW groundswell on the cards for later in the week across the region.
A broad and strong polar frontal progression is firing up south-east of South Africa, and should aim a fetch of severe-gale W/SW winds towards us while tracking slowly east.
A good and pro-longed SW groundswell event should be seen off this low, with the swell arriving through Thursday, building strongly through the day and reaching 6-8ft+ across exposed breaks by dark. A peak is due overnight, with the swell easing from the 6-8ft range Friday morning, further into the weekend.
Beyond this a broad cut-off low is forecast to develop in the Indian Ocean, setting up a broad block across our main swell window resulting in a slow run of surf heading into the end of the month. This may break down into the end of the month, with a large S/SW groundswell possible for the final days of June, but we'll review this on Tuesday.
