Sydney's eastern suburbs

Doesn't matter what the friendly man on the ABC says: "Cyclonic winds", "ten metre waves", "once-in-a-century storm", you can be assured someone is gonna attempt to surf it.

The end of fear

The waiting period for the Red Bull Cape Fear runs out on August 1st and with little on the charts it appears the much anticipated comp won't be held. Temper your disappointment with these photos.

The Jug is half full: "I've always had a deep regret of pulling back"

Ten years ago the view would've been somewhat similar: a double overhead reef, a few ugly ledges, and a smiling nude nut falling from the sky. Last Thursday Jughead fell from the skies again and Swellnet cornered the NSW Central Coast surfer for a chat.

Cape Solander - tight and slow

It was recently bought to our attention that it'd been almost a week since we'd run any shots of Cape Solander. Feeling duly chastised we called on our fave Solander shooter, Charlie Straumeitis.

Mark Mathews - Cape Solander

Who knows how many barrels he's racked up during this recent run of swell? One thing's for sure: most people rocking into the Cape Solander carpark over the last two weeks would've seen Mark Mathews familiar tube style on show. He's been a glutton alright. But it hasn't come without the odd bit of due-paying and after a swag of clean barrels Charlie S catches Mathews taking a lip clean to the back of the head.

Cape Solander

Earlier this week, under an onslaught of south and south-east swell, the reefs near Botany Bay heads were on the pump. Over the course of three days the usual crew - assorted Bra Boys, Hippo, Makua Rothman, Herb McLean, Matt Griggs, Kipp Caddy - stalled and weaved as the waves unloaded on the shallow shelfs.

The Cape and Beyond

Been plenty of swell in Sydney so the regular rock jockeys have been visitng their regular rockshelfs. Earlier this week photographer Charlie Straumeitis caught Ian Lloyd, Sam Mac, Boogs and a fella that looks uncannily like Errol Flynn at one of the more exposed stretches of coast. Wasn't classic but the odd throaty one still belched over the ledge.
