Two days till Whomp Off
There's just two days till Whomp Off 2018!
Whomp Off Australia is a team-based bodysurfing event held annually around Australia. This year it will be held at Cronulla.
It was established in 2016 by Rikki Gilbey, the man behind WAW handplanes, and has grown exponentially each year with 2018 set to be the biggest and best yet.
The focus for Whomp Off is on overall team performance with various events throughout the day such as Tag Team, Tricks, Individual (teams pick their best whomper), and finally a 4 x 25 metre beach relay with fins on.
The scores from each event are tallied up and averaged out amongst the 14 teams to created a team average. At the end of the day, the team with the highest average score wins.
Though rego has closed, the public is very welcome to come along, the weather will be fantastic and it's worth noting they have a beer sponsor - Shark Island Brewing Company.
Where: Cronulla (they won't decide where on the beach till the day, so look for the tents)

The wind-up is similar to boardriding airs.
Usually 3 or 4 down the line swing sets then a really drawn out bottom turn.
Aimed to hit the sweet spot into a full rotation...re-enter either upon the face or behind.
If you get caught up spear down behind and pod beneath to resurface up into the pit.
This sounds rad but it's purely instinctive to not lose a good wave just radically detour it.
Bodybasherz surf the whole wave so it's completely natural to free up any angle.

Same wind-up then spread wings soaring a half rotation into your Golden Xmas Beetle .
Signature shoulder Slam wearing out seat of your pants with whitewater coffin ride...Grin!
Both maneuvers are more arduous and athletic than a 1,000 barrel rolls.
Barrel rolls go with the flow whereas spiral breaches are anti gravity.
Barrel Roll only requires half the speed or ride length of an aerial rotation.
Point panic forward rotations are equally as progressive from a bodybasherz perspective.
I'm yet to complete a full speed front flip rotation. I may yet fluke one...A bit jock I reckon!
Maybe just needs an organic name to give it some connection. Yes! This jock era is a Joke!
Point Panic is a rare solid gold hollow right free of drop ins...never gonna get that here!
