good to see someone logging with more functional technique little less focus on style. Alex Knost on the other hand is painful to watch
Rabbits68Friday, 28 Nov 2014 at 4:54pm
Great to watch. Takes years to get that good. I'm sure most log riders would love to get near that level....
shaunFriday, 28 Nov 2014 at 5:52pm
My memory s a bit foggy, but weren't you going to not publish mal riders without legropes Stu? didn't see one in that clip and there was a few other people in the water.
Wasn't really impressed with the surfing, but i'm a hater.
freddiefferFriday, 28 Nov 2014 at 9:05pm
Well from what I can see, he's way good enough to not wear one, but most of all, if he did, with all that switch-footing he's doing, he'd be tied up in the best knot of all time after one wave, and if he did fall off, he'd drown. So in this case, plus it looks pretty mellow and uncrowded, I'd let him off if I was the on-duty leg rope policeman!
morrisSaturday, 29 Nov 2014 at 5:54am
I thought the surfing was jerky and not very fluid, ugly to watch.
If he was wearing a legrope and he did fall off which I reckon he would have just not on the vid, then it may have saved an innocent person an injury and if he tangled and drowned, sounds like a win win situation to me.
FreddieI think the idea of not posting stuff with guys without a leggie was not to encourage hipsters of average ability.
zenagainFriday, 28 Nov 2014 at 5:55pm
I'm with you on that one Shaun.
He must be so good that he doesn't have to wear a leggy because he never falls off.
And the surfing didn't really blow the hinges off my door either.
Rabbits68Friday, 28 Nov 2014 at 6:00pm
I know like all things in life we all have our own likes & dislikes, but what's not to like about what that dood was doing on that log from a surfing point of view??
indo-dreamingFriday, 28 Nov 2014 at 6:32pm
The first few waves i was like ha ha cool wow shit he has talent!…then next few waves i started to feel dizzy and felt like i was watching the first few waves again, then a few waves latter i just wanted to grab him and tell him to stop it.
rooftopFriday, 28 Nov 2014 at 11:14pm
Ha! Me too. :)
tonerangerSaturday, 29 Nov 2014 at 7:25am
luv short and longboarding but didn't get that.is it a ten foot kneeboard?
tricky_dickSaturday, 29 Nov 2014 at 8:12am
That was the best logging I've seen since I was a young man when a bloke called (Alan Noble) blew me away with that same ability that can read the small wave with precision and get about quickly and accurately. this guy was better though, switch footing like most you could tell it strained, great logging !!! definitely an inspiration. And guys the leggy isn't the issue here.. the inspiration that surfing brings out is...and I love short boards most !! so there is my thoughts.
kashmirSaturday, 29 Nov 2014 at 11:12am
Guy has skill but would prefer to see grommets having fun on that sick little wave,as for no legrope I saw the first non legrope wearer at our local the other day.(he was sent in)
simbaSaturday, 29 Nov 2014 at 6:27pm
Got to agree with a few other posts above that it was interesting for a few waves but yawn, got boring real quick, still see that 10ft mal coming towards me a few years back that smashed into my lower back and laid me up for 10 days.....
smeeagainSaturday, 29 Nov 2014 at 6:38pm
I thought that was good surfing in small waves. Very skillful and he was doing his own thing. He couldn't surf like that with a leg rope on but the place didn't look crowded.
Rabbits68Saturday, 29 Nov 2014 at 9:50pm
Summed up perfectly Smeeagain.......
stray-gator_2Sunday, 30 Nov 2014 at 9:45am

Thank Christ for the hipster/ longboard crowd that would rather practice shimmying around in slop than hunt down a decent wave.
dirk-digglerMonday, 1 Dec 2014 at 4:28pm
Thank you and thank you again Swelnet forum readers. It's lucky for all us that Swellnet forum readers are out there protecting our beaches from people not wearing leashes/legropes. I could only imagine what our beaches would be like if more surfers chose not to wear these essential items of safety equipment. These "surfers" would be forced to swim and retrieve their boards leaving the break free for those who haven't lost their boards... hang on!!
BlowinMonday, 1 Dec 2014 at 7:46pm
I think you've missed the point Dirk. I'm not sure that the Swellnet crew are actually too concerned about the safety of the useless cunts endangering kiddies lives by surfing leggie free amongst other surfers of varying degrees of experience.
abefoxyMonday, 1 Dec 2014 at 8:56pm
LOL.. ahh you legrope haters n nit picking nuts!!!! this is about surfing.. pure n simple.. SURFING... the guy is having a ball and that's obvious.. isn't that the name of the game??? have fun.. we all started surfing to "have fun" damn.. i started 40+ years ago cause i "had fun".. surfing is a life style... there should be no "rules" or differences made at this day and age if a guy who rips and is having a ball with a leggie or not.. yeah can be a safety issue these days but hey.. i started without em.. near died with em and use em now cause im now an old fart and could not be buggered swimming in to get my board off the rocks :) damn.. guys.. keep focus.. "your a surfer.. you surf" thats it... the rest is all bullshit.. keep it pure.. if you don't want to wear a leash.... don't.. simple ... but its not up to you to piss on the masses who do now... times they have a changed... ... how about just enjoying the stoke.. :)
zenagainMonday, 1 Dec 2014 at 9:31pm
That's all well and good Abe so in the future (and i sincerely hope it doesn't happen) a wayward board happens to smash your front teeth out or worse, you'll throw out a shaka and huge toothless grin and put it all down to the dude having fun.

Zenagain... you have not read what i said.... read then reply... .. I do use a leg rope... i dont piss on people who use em or don't... seems a common problem these days.. ppl skim over what in front of em without seeing the meaning.. :) .. simplified is this... Have Fun.. with or without Legrope.. don't piss on people for having fun and doing their own thing... enjoy the stoke... simple... sigh.. just surf mate... and listen/read what others say... Zen is the open mind ... peace
maddogmorleyMonday, 1 Dec 2014 at 9:49pm
I'm with Zen - it's irresponsible to not wear a leggy at a crowded beach no matter how good you think you are. Given the unpredictable nature of the ocean how can anyone can possibly predict the outcome of every situation. Even worse in this case is that it's someone else that gets hurt if he fucks up
abefoxyMonday, 1 Dec 2014 at 10:12pm
Sigh.. again.. narrow thinking.... this is not an argument about legropes or not.. its about the dude having fun.. wow... maddogmorly n Zen... i did not raise the issue of legropes for the safety of the masses.. whinge n whine as much as you want about the most dangerous thing invented for surfers ease... yup.. its the truth... surfing is about knowledge and awareness of what around you and what your place is in the water... if not for legropes 50% of people in the water would not be there for the simple fact.. they cant swim to save themselves... many places surfed now would have a much more competent and respectful bunch of surfers due to the fact.. fall off with no leggie and your board is up for repairs after a bounce on the rocks... now days unfortunatly the ugly spectre of "law suit" is there too... "your board hit me so i sue you" damn.. guys.. think of what you say.. this video is about a guy.. having fun in his own way .. thats all.. fck the bullshit talk of legropes with or without... being hit by loose boards (you made the choice to surf.. not just boards hurt).. dont be so picky and pedantic over a surfer.. and seriously... that guy is a SURFER no argument.. like it or not its up to the individual watching.
zenagainTuesday, 2 Dec 2014 at 12:15am
Abe, mate (sigh), I did read your post thoroughly and I'm not questioning whether he is having fun or not, also there is no question that he is a competent surfer and a very tricky one at that. But the point is, when in a lineup with other surfers present, there is the chance that you are going to fall and best case scenario, board washes up on sand you paddle out and grab another wave. Worst case scenario, some kid cops a board in the temple and his/her life is snuffed out in the blink of an eye. Thank goodness it doesn't happen very often but it does happen.
I like to surf without a leggie too but I also have the added advantage of living in an area with few surfers and often I surf alone or with just one other. If there are other surfers present I will always wear a leggie no matter how small the waves are. I'm all for the fun factor, I had a great surf today, didn't fall off once and only 3 of us in the lineup, but I still wore a leggy. I think the people who surf in crowded lineups without leggies for whatever reason are the ones who are guilty of narrow thinking.
Peace be with you too my friend:)
BlowinTuesday, 2 Dec 2014 at 1:48am
For all your " it's all about fun " arguments, fair play, but it looks like his guy has spent more than a few sessions practicing his act on shitty waves.
As Occy said - " If you're a surfer, you want to be riding good waves. There's plenty of them."
Not riding shit like that. Stick your nose rides in your arse - it's all posing and wank.
Once - great fun, flat day novelty.
Twice - still flat, still fun ... Feel the glide.
Third time - fuck me. Is it still flat ? May as well get wet.
Fourth time - pub.
Fifth time- move somewhere with waves or go fishing.
dirk-digglerTuesday, 2 Dec 2014 at 9:29am
Jeepers Blowin (by the way, is this a nickname you picked up in the Scouts or at boarding school?). I never realised that my small observation regarding leg ropes would force you to drop the C Bomb. What if the "kiddies" were reading your witty replies? You also missed what you do on Sixth Time - Blowin dudes.
BlowinTuesday, 2 Dec 2014 at 10:04am
Yeah Dirk, realisation can be a slow dawn breaking for most longboarders. The grim realisation that you've wasted the gloriously dynamic years of your youth shuffling your feet in slop when you should have been getting pitted off your head being a common theme running through the " fun " brigade I'd imagine.
Not too worried about reddening the kiddies ears with some coarse language either mate, they seem to be pretty well versed in the fine art of cursing these days.
In fact , just this morning ,I overheard a precocious little lass , that must of been all of 12 years old informing a wayward logger that if he let his ridiculously oversized piece of shit board careen dangerously through the middle of the pack after wiping out on a cheater 5 again , then she was going to lodge the board " firmly up your hairy date , you inconsiderate cunt". Her words, not mine.
BTW it's actually Blow-in, not Blowin'. My fault mate. I'm as bad at grammar as you are at grasping the concept of social responsibility.

No Rabbits, I'm just another punter looking for a thrill. Its just that I find the thrill is to be found with speed, in the steepest part of the best waves that my Quasimodo - esque technique will allow and that I struggle to understand the idea behind limiting yourself to shit waves on a stupidly outsized board by choice.
Should old age and disability regal me to those ranks then so be it. But till that day I refuse to go gently into the night and will be raging against the dying of the light so to speak.

I'm with you on this one Blowin, I may not be the prettiest to watch on a shorty, but I won't go easily to the log. Hey Rabbbits68, I get the feeling Blowin does take himself pretty seriously and has a real need to tell everyone around him exactly how serious he is. I get it Blowin, you're a very serious surfer who quotes Occy and 12 year old girls. As an aside, the 12 year old girl sounds like a real "keeper".
Rabbits68Tuesday, 2 Dec 2014 at 10:47am
Blowin when the waves aren't grinding hollow barrels but you still feel the need for a surf, if you haven't already, give these "shitty" waves a crack on a longboard & you might just be surprised. If not just go fishing, it's all good.
