"My best surf session ever" by Kepa Acero - video
A video in which everyone's favourite Basque hermit - because we all know heaps of Basque hermits, right? - travels north of Namibia, deep into the Angolan desert, to experience his best surf session ever. And that's saying something, Acero acquires passport stamps like you and I do Facebook friends. Pole to pole, latitude by longitude, he's sought out the most distant waves during a decade of lonely, hardcore travel.

Mesmerising he deserves it for all the effort. You would have to like your own company though. Wonder who filmed it from the beach?
Who filmed from the beach ,exactly what I was thinking .
but who cares ......brilliant filming, waves and surfing
Abdulie, Fancios, Edgar, Dane and many more.....
Looks like old Kepa has a buddy travelling with him on this one. Which isn't ususally the case, I've seen some of his vids to remote joints - Alaska, Canada, Patagonia etc. - where it's clearly just him, a camera, and a beachball called Wilson.
Also just noticed the tyre marks on the beach in the still shot above. Maybe there's no surfers about but it's clearly not as isolated as first thought.
After the couple of replies I received my comment below is a little over the top here. .................!!!!!!!You notice he hid money under his inner soul of his shoes. Travelling in an African country you don't trust anyone and you do not travel alone. He was with someone for sure as he would NOT have gone by himself(would not have returned alive). the wave reminded me of reverse Kirra. Good fun wave. If you travel in a ?? on safety in African country make sure you buy a automatic weapon and or pistol(but only if you have military training in weapons as I have) in that country and keep it hidden at all times. Otherwise hire someone with military training. You never know when you may need it or him. Believe me.
Kerry - What a load of garbage you talk. You're totally generalising about an entire continent that's comprised of a number of different countries from Morocco to Kenya to South Africa - none of which I've walked around with a gun! I've also trusted plenty of people in Africa as all people are not the same. I also travelled by myself to these places as do millions of tourists each year. Your comment is one of the weirdest I've ever read on here and you're clearly an idiot. Otherwise, you sound like a top bloke.
Sorry if I sounded like an idiot, I'm not thank god hahahaha! I must have to do a bit more study into which African countries can be little dubious to travel in. Morocco South Africa, I have no probs with these countries. After serving in the Australian Army for a few years I heard all sorts of stories of Mogadishu and Rwanda, but come to think of it these countries are not on the coast. I have a friend in Kenya on my facebook page and he is lovely. Take care mate and thanks for the comment.
Apologies if my comment was a bit harsh, I just have an aversion to generalisations, especially those made about something as large as the continent of Africa.
No apology required mate. Been watching LIVE FIJI PRO. Look at the shock results of Fiji Pro on the ASP tour. Kelly Mick and others are all knocked out. Brazilians doing well. Slater chose a quad thinking of down the line came off three time and changed to a tri but it was too late.

A good fun wave, fuck me is that all....that's perfection in my eyes.
He got five barrels on one of those good fun waves!
Kerry your kidding yourself, I have girl mates who have travelled Africa for 6 months by themselves and done voluntary work in slums and some of the refugee camps and not had any dramas.. Over-dramatising things a bit don't you think mate?!
Yeah I agree but see my reply to Scottishsponger that will explain it. Take care mate.
All good mate everyone gets a little bit excited every now and then. Hope your getting some waves
Yeah got some good waves over the last week, I hate the Farm near Shellharbour but I was astonished to get some good 7 foot bombs come through in the centre of the beach. A blue moon I call it. the Coal Coast was good Monday and yesterday and uncrowded. But as all of us want is no crowds and that perfect Indo reef break 6-10ft. Have had this in Samoa but not enough trips to Indo to catch it like that. HOPE YOU ARE GETTING TOP TO BOTTOM BOMBS MATE :) Kerry

Military training can often lead to shell shock.
Kerry - Are you Mark Visser?
Who? sorry see my comment to Scottishsponger.
Got a mate down in Tassie that uses an older one of those "soloshot" cameras with similar results - don't write old mate off for travelling on his lonesome just yet?
Barreldogs, is your avatar in Bali ?
Can a soloshot follow the surfer for a few hundred metres down the line ?
EDIT- sure can .....and only $323 on ebay.
Kepa Acero will soon have a 'air dog auto follow sports drone' to give us more great surf travel footage.
Sick!.........song?
Yep it was good Ol Wilson who was the military trained camera man
He kept low key due to shell shock.
You have captured the essence of why we surf and travel, for fun and to laugh.
I'd hate to be labelled as cynical but.... Not so long ago I saw another European making a movie about the sweet life of the travelling soul surfer . This fella was truly living the life he was portraying on camera and I fully respect the fellas attitude , ability and drive.
It was a bit off putting to see him filming the " hands raised to the sky nearly crying with Stoke " scene as a separate take to be tacked onto the surfing segment in the editing room though.
Kerry1 where else is he supposed to keep his cash? Pretty standard when travelling solo in unknown parts to keep it in your shoe, money belts just say rob me. Most of Africa is fairly safe, I've only been to Namibia and morocco but have mates who've been all over. Certainly no need for guns or armed guards, best to blend as another grubby backpacker, unless you like attention.
nice waves .... not sure i'd be packing the quiver and make a beeline for there just yet .
( not sure when this was shot ) , but heard a whisper the other day that the entire west coast of Africa recently received the cleanest and biggest swell ever witnessed . Full blinding mist ( from swell ) at the regions most famous locale , ' no footage ' bad mist ....
PS , Kerry . According to the " best of the best " , the most important weapon a soldier can carry is a sharp mind ... food for thought .
the most extroverted attention seeking hermit of all time perhaps? , how great a soul man am I everybody? google me out I rip and here is another expose of another new surfspot (new to the net anyhow)to fuck over , being a trustafarian must be nice kepa.Isnt the anus a safer spot for your cash ? People will steal your shoes too in the 3rd world.
The paradoxical pursuit of a postmodern pro: enjoy a place for yourself, film it for everyone else, collect a pay cheque at the end. Man gotta eat.
Young fella just got barrelled off his nut. Good surf stoke and probably glad he just caught the session of his life on camera. I've told a few people about the waves I caught in the Ments solo in the 90's. Telling people ain't the same.
