The Band of Frequencies

The Band Of Frequencies are rapidly gathering a reputation in the surfing world for their works with soundtracks for filmmakers such as Albe Falzon, George Greenough, Thomas Campbell, Cyrus Sutton, Mick Waters and Justin Krumb. 2011 has seen the band releasing more music from their second album, Rise Like The Sun. The first single off the album is titled Free Again and you can listen and download the new track here

This core of the band is the electric rhythm section featuring Shannon Sol Carroll (guitar/vocals), OJ 'The Juice' Newcomb (bass) and Mark 'Heno' Henman (drums), together they attain a chemistry more in tune than a NASA science lab. They were also the rhythm section core of Afro Dizzi Act, a successful funk/afro beat band who have played the Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival, Livid, Good Vibrations, Australian World Music Expo, the Big Day Out and in 2009 they headlined The Woodford Folk Festival.

In 2006 the 'Freqs' toured California with David Rastovich and got the job to work on the soundtrack to Cyrus Sutton's second film Under The Sun with funk/groove label, Ubiquity Records. While in California they received glowing reviews;

"Prepare to have your musical thirst quenched. Byron Bay's Band of Frequencies dabbles in the whole pallet of musical genres; Bluesy rock drips away into skull-melting lullabies that pitter-patter like rain into jazz-fusion grooves that inevitably wander off somewhere else altogether." - Travis Ferre (SURFING Magazine)

"Sol Carroll's guitar tones are the sh*t and their futuristic live audio / visual shows tie it all together with the audience.' Michael McFadin, co-founder Ubiquity Records

They recently headlined the Noosa Festival Of Surfing with Dallas Frasca, and April 30 sees their latest soundtrack work being showcased in the World Premiere of Justin Krumb's Minds In The Water alongside other bands such as the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Xavier Rudd and Ash Grunwald.

Andrew Crockett spoke to Shannon Sol Carroll:

Andrew Crockett: What is the Minds in the Water film about and how did you score the job to create the title track? Shannon Sol Carroll: We were in Japan with Dave for the initial Taiji action and wrote a song about the experience and it just fits, so Justin asked us to record a version and send it over.

AC: After you completed the soundtrack for Rasta's 'Life Like Liquid' documentary, you ended up working on Cyrus Sutton's 'Under The Sun' with Ubiquity Records. Who else is on the soundtrack and where can people see the film? Shannon Sol Carroll: That soundtrack is a collaboration between Shawn Lee, an amazing producer and musician from the Ubiquity Records stable, and most of the artists in the Low Pressure Productions crew. The whole thing was released as a double album CD.

AC: Did it ever make it onto DVD? Shannon Sol Carroll: I'm not sure if it made it to DVD yet but there are rumors that it's close.
