Watch: Arc Of Aleutia
One of the first surfers to tip the Endless Summer concept on its head, photographer Chris Burkard has made a name for staying as far from the tropics as possible. Instead of swaying palms and coral reefs, glaciers and snow-topped peaks form the backdrop to Burkard's imagery.
'Arc Of Aleutia' is Burkard's second film from the Aleutian Islands - 2014's 'Cradle Of Storms' was his first - and he's become somewhat of a surf pioneer along the windswept Arctic archipelago. This time around he's shooting Harrison Roach, Parker Coffin, and Nate Zoeller, all Roark team riders.
If you've seen Burkard's earlier film, plus his many photographic missions out there, you may recognise some of the waves in 'Arc Of Aleutia', though perseverance and increased intel appear to be paying off 'cos this is the best they've yet been filmed.

Looks epic - have to save that to later!
Just a bit curious how his legrope free approach goes down with Pipe locals.....add a loose board to the heavy water/lava reef/locals/crowds/rips mix.... I imagine you'd be pretty unpopular if you hit someone!!
They eat any Crab legs ?
gambling ads can take a hike
I remember when the NRL commentators first had to start presenting the betting odds and how hugely awkward it was, like it was wrong and shouldn't be on TV... how far we've come.

Awesome. That slab at the end was hectic. A long way from help if someone got injured.
Trusty free flight singly
Looked like one straight out of Noosa Junction Sideways.
I think it was a replica Harrison had custom made after surfing it in the Ulu single fin.
Yep, quite a story behind it:

2 Thumbs up for some classic adventure footage. Very nice
Go to Youtube and search 'Cradle of storms - part 1' and 'Cradle of storms - part 2' and finally 'Cradle of storms - part 3' They get the left and the right slab at the end totally cooking. The right slab in part 3 is mental, Alex Grey puts on a clinic of tube riding to a great soundtrack. Here's a link to part 3. I'm not sure why they split them into 3 parts but you can watch it for free. Such an epic movie
Cradle of storms - part 3
&t=505sThey go all that way to a pristine place to practice their contest moves, missing the point!
What moves would have you practiced? I'm not sure what contest moves are, but I'm pretty sure they just surfed those waves the way they enjoy surfing waves, which is how waves should be surfed.
The longboarder had the right approach,he could have put all his effort into pushing a big attempt but he just flowed in synergy with the remote beauty of the place. In 45 years of surf travel I’ve always had that philosophy. From a viewers point of view I can see those moves anywhere popular, but they seem out of place in Aleutia.
