looks darren handley in the line-up?
was that river mouth cut deeper& dredged - is that why there's so much sediment in the water - I haven't been there since 1989?

The place has been under water the last few weeks. Massive floods. The sediment washing down from the hills has been increasing with all the corn been grown these days sadly.

Not really that’s into building waves but if I were to, something like this would be what I’d be aiming for
Haha, thought that was Richards mug in the video. Good to see him back in the game.

Nice. Lakeys will always remind me of my mate Simon. He lived for seasons on Sumba, if Newcastle were playing back home he'd surf in his black and white strip. RIP

Ah. Simon was class. Funny funny man. I did not know him well but surfed with him both at his home ground and abroad. His bouncy castle at Longsands kept my kids happy for hours haha. RIP Simon.

Yeah he was a unique character. Remember him working on his sunburn, feeding his pet seagull and doing endless back flips on that bouncy castle during quiet times. Sandy still charging.

I haven't been there for 24 years. Looks like the forest has been cleared quite a bit. Still the same wave though.

You could take a longer board there and make it easy for yourself on the take off as your not going to be doing too many turns. That is the perfect set up no doubt.

Spent a few weeks there 20 years ago, I agree the coast looks very different in that footage
We scored periscopes with no one out too, epic memories

R.I.P my best friend Peter Neely, who was one of the first to ever surf Lakey.
I met Peter Neely on my first trip to indo in 1997, cool bloke and his books were great for learning the lingo. RIP.

There is no way a 4 foot day was the best day of the year.

Terrible news about Peter Neely as was unaware. His book was always part of my kit on various trips to Indo and used frequently. Thanks Peter for introducing me to the Indonesian language, never mastered it but def knew enough to say hello and thank you and other courtesies , order food and drinks and most importantly navigate my way around and ask locals about any waves down dirt goat tracks. Terima kasih banyak

Tip of the hat to all of those who remembered Peter so accurately. He was Mother Nature's gentleman. We were fast friends from Pittwater High in 1968, took me to Noosa in 1974 and we were together in Noosa, Bali and California among other places. I miss him every day.

Sorry to hear you lost a good friend HBB - they are so rare and when they leave us it does cut deep. You will meet again - thats a nice hope to hold onto. Take care. Will go catch a wave at Desert Point for Pete next time I am there. ( :

Article on Pete Neely from Tracks magazine. Seems like a beautiful person who found a way to follow his calling https://tracksmag.com.au/remembering-pete-neely-the-creator-of-indo-surf...
Nice tribute.
Still got one of his guide books from the 90s.
Sounds like he was a decent bloke.
