John John, Rasta, and Dan Ross hop a propellor plane for a strike mission south. The quality of wave is a little subdued, at least compared to other trips, but the cross-hatched wedges still look a barrel of fun.
this is the best clip i've seen in since vintage dane or something

I'd go surfing with them

Looks fun as hell.

I really enjoyed that. Fair to say that wave is a grower. JJF transplanted from the North Shore into rural oz countryside, taking it all in and the dry Aussie wit made it work. Good clip.

There’s a nice little article somewhere about that trip.
Apparently first time Dave and John had met. Made it kind of seem like it was a happen-chance thing (not sure about that). Both would suit each other I reckon.
Apparently a few other crew of pros were there at the same time and those two just bolted kms down the beach to avoid them and surf on their own.
Interestingly although I’d say John is a superior surfer, Dave’s boards seem to flow better on those waves.

At least there was one whizzy. Check the 7.20m mark if you missed it.
Super fun clip!

That looked fun...love a random wedge setup.
Fans of Rossy’s surfing should check out his section in RePulse...some of his waves are insane!

What a great wave, never tell secrets.

Most people would know where it was wouldn’t they? Think it’s a big mission for a freezing beach break, rather head north for some Bintangs and multiple consistent reef options.

Love a good kick stall.

Great vid. Great surfers.
Check this out from last week for more JJF, especially after the 14min mark at what looks like Sunset. Some of the most mind melting turns you'll ever see.

Great clip!
Those brothers are the living definition of the dream surfing life. The sunset at the end was a perfect full stop.

Pretty sure that was Rock Piles (or maybe Kammy Land) not Sunset though

It's interesting when you see JJF surfing good powerful waves with other good surfers. Gives you a real gauge of how good he is compared to everyone else. You see other people trying that turn of his and they're still miles off. Mind Melting is a good phrase to describe it. It's like TC's snap at Pipe for its critical nature, but then he draws it out with the finesse and style of Curren at Bawa in 94. On top of that he can do it on demand any time. No one comes close.

Jesus those John turns... there is no one like him.
What does Ivan do? Is he earning enough to just do fuck all and surf a bit and skate a bit? Or you reckon big bro John has just said listen bruv, I've got ya, just cruise?

Loved it, Rasta must have been a surprisingly honest down to earth refreshing change for JJF.
It must be hard for them both to surf that good and all you want to do is go surf and you have the "You have to go meet these people" and "You need to get clips" and all the shit that goes with being sponsored etc etc.
Surely can't complain though, could be digging trenches in the red hot sun.

That was good , just surfing and good surfing, making wonky waves look fun , Rasta still trying hard to please the sponsors with the giant labels but soul pro surfing is a complicated gig I imagine , especially as you get old . JJF miles above the rest of the world

was that Ted Grambou talking about that island and swell directions?
Id like to travel a quarter of as much as that guy has.

I found this clip mildly entertaining.....
like squeezing a pimple or vacuuming a car.

Great part of Australia, but cold. Loved it.
