Was there a guy paddling out on a twinnie 8min 10 seconds?

Yep, looks like Kirk Jenkins.

Expensive day out for that ski owner. Insurance voided.

which bit voids the insurance? i had heard before i saw the video that it got stuck in reverse (of particular concern cos i have a similar model) and thought maybe it was a bruised ego blaming that, but you can see from the video that it is genuinely stuck in reverse. would have been especially hard to try and manually stuff around with that reverse flap thing cos the sled was sitting right over the top of it.

When I first took out insurance on my ski the policy specifically excluded water damage to the motor/electrics etc if there was no hull damage/hole through the hull. This was specifically to stop the significant claims made by guys who were wave jumping their skis in the surf and getting water damage to the engine without any hull damage. ie your insurance only covered you if you hit a submerged object and it could be proven that the water entered the engine from the hole in the hull. However I just read my latest PDS and this doesn't appear to be included anymore.
However I do note that the guy driving/operating the ski before it hits the rocks isn't complying with the law with respect to buoyancy vests offshore so if the insurance company sees this video they could easily void the insurance based on this.

It looks pretty new and likely still under manufacturers warranty, i wonder if the malfunction would effect a claim at all. Are any of the skis out there acting in a rescue capacity or is it all pretty much free for all?

Do you reckon if you killed someone in that lineup (a submerged photographer, say) while stuck in reverse you'd go to jail, or could the manufacturer take the blame?

It’s a good and fair question mate.

Great vision,even better music

Sick sound track too. Problem I find with water footage like this is you keep wondering if they made it out after they go past the cameraman.
13:24 best footage of the whole clip.
Zoomed out showing from swell lump to completed ride, no slow-mo, raw sound.
More of that Tim.

Agree painful slo-mo. Although the video would be 2 mins instead of 10. And punters will be bored as the wave rides are less than 5 secs.

Spellbinding.

Thank you Tim--can't believe this sick content is free. Very grateful. You're a grandmaster of this art form and very freaking generous. Making life better for kooks like me who lack the skill but love the maniac spirit. Thanks for capturing it perfectly.

Why are crew towing when people are paddling?
Lukas_ZMonday, 17 May 2021 at 2:03pm
Why is it that tow-in surfing, even called surfing? Why has surfing become so macho? Big up to those paddling
