Watch: A Northern Rivers pointbreak
Connor O'Leary, Torren Martyn, Ellis Ericsom, Jai Glindemann and more on a lined up north coast point.
Rasta's out there too, riding a long-railed twinny, which, to my eye at least, cruels his usually usual smooth style.
Filmed last winter, hence the full wetsuits.

You can stop it after that turn at 1:00.
yep and at 5.41
long twinnies look really awkward. whoever was on the shorter twin seemed much smoother than both torren and rasta.
Noticed that too, glad you brought it up. "Foam is your friend" gets thrown around too readily, there's a limit before it works against you.
Clunky looking...id like to see Torren surfing one of Gary Mcneil Long twins ?
Yeah although stylish i reckon this is nothing to watching him on that 5'6 entity in Castles in the sky on an Indian island. Mad me think hes the most stylish surfer in the world and the only reason he doesnt win heats is because there's something wrong with the judging system.
True however the cut backs kill the thruster. Really interesting to see the thrusters really need the pocket to perform and die in the arse out on the wall which seems to be important on these types of waves if you don't get the right one. Watch Kerrsy for some unreal twin fin surfing. I have a 5'6" twinny similar to the black baron and love it up to 5' on smoothish conditions. A lot of fun and far less pump between turns. Going to try a longer one in bigger conditions and see if it is clunky or not. Goes Ok left as well with the right fins.
Somethink like this for Torren i reckon
Yes nice one would like to try it. I have an offer from Phil Grace to surf one of his 6'6" twinnies which I will try this week. Bit long but, still.....
Nice. Good waves, great surfing, and even though it was clearly pretty busy, no drop-ins (in the clip at least). Hats off to the crew for keeping it nice. Agree with the comment above about the longer twins, it is the first time I can recall seeing Torren's board seem less than optimal for the conditions.
That first wave is incredible surfing. So smooth
yessir, connor looks a couple classes above everyone in this edit.
Jai has ‘em all covered
PS- nice drone shot ‘throw off’
Agreed! That place never gets anywhere near this good
good to see some great surfers ripping
We all know that aint byron bay,
but hey - great surfing and really nicely filmed. music suited as well.
Still why does Byron get used to sell everything these days?
should have just left it at "pointbreak somewhere up north"
The Pass at its most Lenngendary!
If ever there was a strong case for Byron Bay to be the future site of a major WSL comp, this is it. World class waves, booming surf industry, truckloads of elite-level professional surfers already in situ.
Let's put it straight it's no Boulders.
true but it was a good sleight of hand to show boulders at the beg and end
Now, at its peak, is surfing fun or what?
Geez, I didn’t mind the mid length twinnie surfing.... classic lines
+1.
If I could ride mine like Rasta I'd be feeling pretty happy with myself.
Perhaps the boards aren't optimal, but is that the point? Perhaps both TM and DR were actually surfing for themselves and not for the camera. Ellis Erickson surfs unreal too. I'm sure they could all tear the bag out of it on the optimal board, but perhaps they were just having fun. I'm OK with them going straight if that's what floats their boat.
Personally I found the kid doing the most interesting stuff was on the short fat twinny, with the thrusters being bloody good but oh so predictable and the focus being cram-in-as-many-turns-as-possible.
A bit off topic but check out Matt Bennett (Mount Maunganui, NZ). He's probably about 40ish and rips on a sweet little twinny. Quite inspiring to watch really good flowing surfing on a twin fin. Made me think about making one. Might have to adjust the size to allow for my age limitations though.
