From reeling sandbars, to 20ft barrels, and onwards to offshore, barrelling beachies, Leonardo Fioravanti puts forward a good argument for hitting the highway during times of swell.
It blows me away how easy these guys can travel from country to country in the midst of a pandemic.

one thing i that isn't a surprise is that this ease of travel is in countries with 10,000+ new covid cases a day.
some solid poundings with those bigger waves.

It'll be interesting to see how things pan out for him in Hawaii RE the pandemic. Personally I wouldn't want to be there at the moment.
TrentslatterphotoMonday, 16 Nov 2020 at 4:14pm
where was the 20ft barrel section ?
stunetTuesday, 17 Nov 2020 at 7:26am
"25ft foot" barrels, if you believe Leo's video title, Trent.
Figured I'd better round it down.

I blame the crappy clickbait culture of youtube. Leo seems like a decent bloke.
Those were some heavy fckn waves. Much respect (and much jealousy for the Mundaka section)

There was a woman named Eliphah who had a brother called Ant. Ant had a son who liked to surf but Ant and his wife had never named him until one day the Occassion seemed right. They were all having lunch one day with the extended family, Ant and his beautiful wife and their unnamed son and Ant’s sister Elipha was there, and of course Eliphah was also their unnamed son’s aunt. They were all chatting about how the boy was a great surfer and showed courage in the waves. But just as they were talking the boy put his hand out to grab a shrimp off the barbie, and his Aunt Elipha called out and growled and told him to wait his turn. He quickly pulled back his hand and obeyed her. Somebody said “oh jeeze he charges big waves but he’s scared of his Aunty” and then his father said “its true, I will name him Fear-of-Aunty”. They said “it doesn’t sound French enough”, so he said “ok Fioravanti” and they all agreed, but when they say it they always know it really means “fear of Aunty”!!

That was a slow burner that one. The pay-off was worth it.

no it wasn't

From the data set available to us we can conclude that 50% of people think that joke is funny and 50% think it isn't. It's a small sample at the moment, but I'm looking forward to gathering more data on the subject. These are exciting times we live in.

Awww, common guys, I’m fishing...gimme another one like it. Haha, even in my own home I get around a 50/50 strike rate with those. My daughters just about throw their food at me at the table!!!

Well it looks like we're still at 50/50. This is a bit like the US election. It's on a knife edge. Could be some legal challenges in the works I fear.

I like it, just tipped the scale.

think the 20ft barrel claims might be using mainland american sizing.
SpuddupsMonday, 16 Nov 2020 at 6:20pm
I think we can all agree that it was a big wave though.
memlasurfMonday, 16 Nov 2020 at 6:22pm
It was bloody big who cares it was a hoot watching him go for it and I reckon he would know barrel size way more than any of us, let's face it the guy is a gun and I loved the clip. Old school Aussie surf trip in Europe, what more could you want. Those big beasties looked like a really raw Victorian swell - bumpy, wild and cold
WestofthelakeMonday, 16 Nov 2020 at 9:05pm
That big right near the end I was hoping he would magically appear out of the foam was awesome. The background sunset scene on the shore with him sharing the stoke was gold.

Must be a bit of "interference" before the swell gets to that fun looking right in the last segment. 8.4m @ 19 seconds swell. Maybe the buoy is way out to sea, or there is a significant continental shelf, or its protected in a bay where the waves have to bend in. Uninterrupted 6m swells @ 19s seconds at Jaws (even margs) are significantly bigger. Good effort for Leo pulling into that last one though.
