Watch: Padang Padang plus
Indonesia may be off limits to Aussie vacationers but our circadian rhythms still pull us there. The days get shorter, water gets colder, and Indonesia inadvertently comes to mind. We're hopelessly drawn towards it.
But unless you wanna forfeit travel insurance, cop a quarantine period at either end, and pay top dollar for a flight, videos like this are as close as you're gonna get for season 2020.
Padang, not pumping but pretty damn good, with just a few crew out.

Thanks Stu that really rubs it in. A good surf here is like the crappiest over there and that swell looks like it is from the cherry ripe direction for Balangan.
Surfing Canngu would be like hanging in a bar these days. Heaps of fit Euro chicks in bikinis cruising the line up, yoga posing on the beach, walking their designer mutt etc.
Ya wouldn't have to bother riding down to double 6 after dark in 2020. Kill 2 birds with one stone during the day.
So your saying the view would be pleasant?
No.....I'm saying you'd be able to surf and make new friends at the same time.
Yes that would be fun.
Nice last wave.
Why does it say Impossibles but the video says Balangan? They are 2 different spots.
So is Bali open to foreign tourism or are they all expats ?
Bali def not open ATM unless u have KITAS
Must be a way carrrnnttsss
2021 is going to be a shitshow...
2021 could well be a repeat of 2020.
Best case scenario is for the Indonesian government to block entry to the yanks and the brazzos, and let in the Australians.
That'd be epic.
Best case scenario is for the Indonesian government to block entry to everyone except me and a few mates..
It's not like the good old days when a couple of strategically placed 10 thousand roop notes in the passport got you an extended visa stamp at the airport.
I had a 17 year lay off on Indo and was frankly offended when the rupes in the passport trick didn’t work a few years back. Damn progress, tidak corrupsi.
I was under the impression that Bali was dying from a lack of tourism. The place looks fully stocked, going by that footage, or is it from an earlier time?
Mate fully stocked means 70plus at Balangan,50-60 at Padang. Its not pretty. Last few years really have been times of extreme events&those who are there now are the luckiest pricks on earth assuming they don't get deathly sick
Okay, thanks for that. Well if that is supposed to be quiet time in Bali then a resumption of 'normal' is a level of hectic I can easily live without. I'm off that trip.
IMO I think 2021 will be quiet, leisure travel won't be high on many peoples agenda's especially after the economic impact this is going to have on workers worldwide. The elephant in the room is the monumental destruction of global corporate wealth which will inevitably seep through into the lower-end demographic, and as airline prices rise cheap destinations like Indo will suffer.
Must've been tough surfing padang with what, 5 or 6 out?
Looked pretty average to me...Padang was barely breaking and the other waves are crowded and so-so on their best days let alone what we just saw. Would be nice to be in boardies though...
Probably harder than ever to get waves. So many local Balinese shredders not working but surfing more than ever.
Jeez..."Bali counts 113 new positive cases yesterday , pushing the cumulative total to 1,640. Total recoveries are at 875 (+15) and there was yet again one more additional death for a total 15 (third day in a row). Active cases stand at 749 (+97) http://covid19.bnpb.go.id/ https://pendataan.baliprov.go.id/ and https://infocorona.baliprov.go.id/"
Called Garuda this week and cancelled my flight that was supposed to leave 19/7.
They have allowed rebooking by Feb and travel until December 2021, so fingers crossed.
Got the best waves of my life at Balangan last September.
You could be in luck.
