Watch: Slabland - Part 1

Tim Bonython winds the clock back to 2015, when consecutive days saw, first, Cow Bommie breaking under bluebird conditions, and then the next day The Right doing the same.

Separated by a few hundred clicks, both waves are capable of holding extraordinary size, yet they're two very different beasts.

How are the rocks poking up out of the water not to mention the boils! Madness that is crazy heavy.

Tim gets great footage, but the slow-mo kills me. Watching these waves in real-time gives you a greater appreciation for how fast it all happens, and just how insane these guys are!

Couldn't agree more and that music! With so many bands unable to play live at the moment and having limited ability to reach a wider audience it feels like an opportunity lost to showcase some great local artists.

Mick Corbetts bomb was just that...due respect...but who the fart was the board inside him attached to...presumably they'd seen a nice cray on the bottom!!!

Unfortunately for me, while I live a mere 50ks away...my gut is now to big to allow me to squeeze into barrels like that...otherwise I'd be charging it...not

I think it was Dan Ryan. Always meant to ask him about that as it's gotta be one of the heaviest situations of all time.

Shane Ackerman also had a gnarly moment like that there, the frame grabs did the rounds on social media

Hey Stu > presumably the title is reference to The Scientists, if so very clever (as always)! If you're unaware Kim Salmon just released a biography; its worth a read if you're into post-punk origins. Quite a few knowledge gaps were filled-in for me. RR

I'm glad someone picked up on it!

Most content goes up early in the morning so the screen blurbs are hastily thought out affairs, often pre-caffeine, and though they don't always hold up to later scrutiny they usually give me a chuckle. Even more so when recognised.

Heard about Salmon's book, was keen to read it, and your comment is another signpost directing me towards the bookshop.

So cheers, RR!

Cheers, Simba.

Funny thing, Craig pulled me up for another spelling error in that same sentence, so he read it and didn't pick it up either.

I feel marginally better.

aussieunique.com Chapter 4 is The Fright. It’s a WA based video.
Wouldn’t be surprised if this comment gets deleted so check it if you love Surfing (there’s minimal filler). Trying to save for a new camera, apologies to the wealthy elite.

The Right! That has to be one of the heaviest waves in the world, that's incredible. Those guys are nuts, absolutely nuts. I'd love to sit in the channel and watch it but I dunno how anyone could paddle from the channel to the line up - refer to the article on Gonad Man.

The RIGHT on those occasions. Would have to be some of the heaviest waves I have seen, that I can remember. Well done. Bravo people.
Special kind of humans there I thinks.
And what? Mark Mathews is. "How about I grab a camera, and follow you into one. Hey."
Makes my covid life feel crappier. If that could happen. Ha.

Most incredible amazos waves and footage and gutsy omg! But had to mute- worst soundtrack ever! Had to do the same for the Caroline Marks- Isolation video- that was pure agony! The Numbskulls got it SO right for the Emerald Isle vid with pure ocean soundtrack- which is ironic seeing as though it's a musically driven country. Seems only Need Essentials knows how to match tunes to waves....

heavy wave no doubt, especially at that size, but Cowes is not a slab.
