Ment's are empty no more. HT's with 40.
July - August numbers will interesting then.
Shame.
Lance’s right is a funny joint for crowds. Possibly the shortest time frame for tourists to convince themselves that they’re locals out of any break I’ve ever been. Special mention going to the Irish girl with a complexion like someone had thrown a pot of tea leaves onto a white canvas and with no surfing ability to speak of who would paddle around the “ Boat babies” cause she apparently believed she had hardcore local credentials.
Im still seeing heaps of reports, photos even video of empty waves in the ments even at well known world class spots.
HTs is just one of those waves that is super popular because of the quality but also just the name, even during Covid footage at times of it still showed it to be quite busy.
Nusa tengarra west sumbawa is already packed and land prices have gone up by 7 times what i paid in 2010. My indo mate is trying to sell a massive block at scar reef or a nearby wave called phantoms right on the beach all the way to the highway..not sure how many era (10 metre2 blocks)in total but its massive block. must be around at least $100 000 or something back in 2010 it would have been about $15000 aud.
just got this message :
1.880 ara
ttl price 28.200.0000.000 rupiah which is almost 282 000 000 dollars.
Disregard that message as i just rang my mate in hawaii who bought land off him and lent him some money and he told me about an hours worth of scams including that guy trying to get me to sell land for him and about 20 other people. he has been going to indo for 6 months a year since the late 80's and i told him he should write a book with the stories he told me.Including:
If you ever go to west sumbawa and meet a guy named Aldi tell him pay jaya's wife back or everyone willthink you're ali baba..

Tell me that's not Rosary. Old acquaintance from Lakey, and she was very low key then.

Thats who i was thinking not too many ginger Irish girls taking on decent waves, she loves Nias so could imagine her staying at HT's for months on end.
This chick was mid twenties not that long before covid. I can’t imagine her taking on a decent wave. She didn’t have the ability or inclination as far as I could see. 3-4 ft Lance’s was beyond the top end of her skill set. Didn’t stop her from fancying herself Queen of the lineup.
It's a weird phenomenon.
Last time I was there, there were two French Canadian chicks at Macaronis, paddling up the inside every time and aggressively calling people off waves.
They could barely make the drop and turn.
I was out at rags right one year and a boat full of French girls turned up , ooh la la , it was 3-4 ft and building , wasn’t many waves that you didn’t hit the reef ( pretty flat reef so not too bad ) they watched for a while then paddled over and after hitting the reef it was back to the boat .
Par for the course these days, it’s endemic in Byron and regularly pops its head up around my local.
Empowerment or misguided, unearned entitlement - you be the judge.
Ah HTs - many years ago managed to get the ferry there and stay in the village for a while just as as they were starting to plan the resort. Warm juice and Malibu, hiking through the jungle to Lances Lefts and a lot less people….happy days…
Just got out of the water at Ht's. Waves were perfect 4 to 5ft barreling off it's head. Some memorable rides going down.
If you were thinking of sneaking up and beating the post covid crowd. Forget it. It's done.
40 guys out. Three boats and plenty off the land. 6 boats at Lance's left yesterday and the camp there is full.
Whilst today there was some great surfing there were times the action was a comedy. Just guys that should not be out there. Seriously it's beyond them.
Saw three of them take off at the office closer to low than high tide. (WTF were they doing at "the office") One got completely pitched. One wobbled to his feet and wore the lip in the head. The third made the drop with no hope off getting around the wave and in straightening out plowed into one of the previous. And it just goes on.
Fuck it was stupid busy.
Despite all that it real is a magnificent beautiful wave but It just breaks my heart.
Fuck the commercialism of surfing. It's like a cancer.
