The Garby
Elders speak of
the regretful
interactions
between their
people and the
Europeans, the
most notable being
the Red Rock Massacre of the
1880s. Europeans are said to have chased
the Gumbaynggirr people from their camp
at the river to the headland, where many
innocent people lost their lives. Red Rock
is referred to as ‘Blood Rock’ by the Garby
Elders, who regard this as an extremely
sacred site and a place for reflection. A
memorial has been established on the
headland to mark the event and recognise
the brutality that occurred at the site.
Sad & sorry list of massacres goes on & on from Myall Creek east then north to Border...
Good call blindboy...
perterb a very thoughtful wall of remembrance...same goes for comments & song.
Let me share the load brothers...However painful.
North from 'Evan's Head Massacre'
Black Head Massacre
Lennox Head Massacre
Kingscliff Massacre
Fingal Dreamtime Beach Massacre
Tweed River Massacre
Wyangan Creek 'Woodlands Hills' Massacre
Nerang River Camp Massacre
Stradbroke Island Massacres
Fraser Island Massacres
Throughout Greater Brisbane west & North the death count was much higher.
Many Coastal Blacks were marched by gunpoint off Headlands/Beaches then into the sea.
Govt led Sand Mining operations were said to be a bit too thorough... No bones about it ?
Up until mid last century communities were still paving the past with anything new 'll do.
A world where just one dissenting voice could save a Playground makeover of a Bora Ring.
But just who the bloody hell would be so stupid or that brave? Remarkably some were...
On Gold Coast J.G.Appell & others stepped up to save Jebbribillum Bora.
Bora Memorial Rock also affords myself and all a place of remembering these torn souls.
Lest we forget.
What a foundation! Wait... there's plenty more to be proud of!

Nothing wrong with a pack of sleezy, inhumane, cowardly lies, the 'colony' was founded on them!
Blindboy how was the gig at honey rider?
So the Chardonnay socialists didn't join the chorus?
The recognition of these massacres has always been the battle of the indigenous people to bring to the attention of Australians who's view of history is that of what the blue bloods want them to think.
It's up to Aussies with a conscientious view not to do that of the left leaning political groups and fight there battle but to provide them with a platform and march in solidarity sometimes pushing too many issues waters down what your truely passionate about.

Jack Charles advocates telling these stories in schools as part of Australian history.
Good listen.
