fin chop

I got a deep fin chop on upper thigh two weeks ago, 6 internal stitches and 5 external, laterally across my upper femur , although didn't go as far as the bone. had stitches out 4 days ago but still having pain in leg, no fever , can walk but limited movement and can't squat without pain. is this normal? when i went to have stitches out doc said there was a bit of haematoma, which i knew nothing about. he didn't say anything more about it and there is no blackness of the skin or anything ,just maybe slightly darker although hard to tell if just tan. going nuts not being able to surf here in indo, wondering if anyone has any suggestions , recovery time and if it is sounding normal? the cut itself is slowly healing but its the area extending to me knee that is the issue...

Salty, don't know where you are in Indo but if it was me for the sake of a few hundred bucks I would head to Singapore and get it checked out...

I'd be very careful of golden staph in that region, may be ok though as it was a fin chop and not reef cut
easy access into the bone though if it were to get infected.
There maybe a few doctors on here but the majority of us are not, and you should seek professional advice, whether you count a backyard Bali or remote Indo doctor as professional, then that is your call mate
ps. not having a go at the Docs over there, just poor conditions and equipment they have to work with in some regions, infection following surgery is the big one to be careful of

thanks everyone... yeah got the cut in bali. went straight to siloam hospital to get cleaned and stitched. they spent a long time cleaning it but never can be too sure i guess. but I'm thinking i would have a fever if infected? unfortunately got shit travel insurance that won't pay as i was in emergency. lesson learned for sure don't buy an airline insurance! they totally suck! have two more weeks here already booked flight home but if gets worse I will try and change. they only gave me antibiotics for 5 days. golden staph sounds bad, I'm hoping its just muscle/tendon damage or something . maybe i will go back to the doc here tomorrow and get it re checked.

A injury like that in that environment..filthy ocean water, 5 days antibiotics aint enough...what sort and what strength
Curious - how much was the stitch job ?

After a few years in g.land it became obvious to me that cuts could become septic or healthy within hours . If you really want you can be alkaline or acidic . Alk being the better option , you gotta be vigilant but it is possible to be clean & heal the wound fast if you are alkaline asap

Heal wounds with alkaline ph & wet healing procedure. Ie ointment ,& covered wound.

udo, antibiotics were "farlev" indo brand of levofloxacin i think.5 x 500 mg. the stitching cost about 400 bucks, but then with consultation, X-ray, tetanus, painkillers etc all up about a grand

yeah caml i used saline to clean stitches for two weeks before had stitches out. and an antibiotic gauze.. and covered.the actual cut looks ok, but more concerned with whats happening underneath and surrounding area.i guess it's normal though. maybe i go back onto more antibiotics

No don't salt . If you are alkaline & keep it clean & covered u don't need that anti-life medicine. U could use vit-e & topical ointment

All sorts of niggles, aches and even a potentially serious ailment ......gone.

Salty I would be more worried that you severed import at muscles / tendons / nerves . And the Balo doctors just didn't diagnose properly . Generally speaking infection will travel up the body rather than down . Sounds more like a blood flow / nerve issue to below the wound . Don't trust me though , I'm a doctors arsehole . Singapore sounds an option or just a flight back to Darwin to check then if okay back to Indo or home if not ?!

Ask a doctor like the average Joe . Or discover alkaline & you won't need those docs for a while yet .

hey udo, thanks for asking...back in oz now and still trying to get further treatment.. trying to sort out if i need to go to sports med orthopaedics or neuro specialists. all a bit of a pain and a little complicated. waiting to hear back from various doctors. i may need it re operated on as the ultrasound back here showed the cut went deeper into the muscle- the surgeon in bali said i just scratched it, so looks like he was wrong ( which I'm not surprised as it didn't feel right) and probably didn't stitch those muscles. so yeah ..guess these things happen. so still unsure of what is to be done as of yet.. the ulstraound also showed up various particles of sand embedded into the muscle ( great!) and he said it was all a bit of a muck! perhaps an mri will show up more detail
