Fishing tips
Ha ha Indo- I did that with yabbies. Pumped a bucket and put them in the boot and forgot about them. A week later and I was gagging from the smell inside the car.
Opened the boot and it was like being punched in the face. Smell never ever quite left the car after that. Lesson learnt.
OMG a week that would be 100 times worse, especially after putting the effort in pumping them.
Smoked a lot of weed back then Indo.
hahahahaha.
haha , yeah . My wagon usually smells like a trawler.
Worst one I dealt with was 200kg of octopus trap bait left in the back of a station wagon for 4 days .
I wired up an small onion sack full of prawn heads and old pilchards underneath my mates Hilux yesterday. He hasn't found it yet. But he's noticed that something smells 'fishy'. Give it a day or so.
an artist mate found a dead whale and decided to souvenir a bit of it and put it in the back of the station wagon for a few days...months later, if you even sat in the car you had to burn your clothes.
not that he learned anything from that. he recently found a whole dead wobegong at broulee and tried dragging that home. and they say Picasso was difficult.
I had a grudge against a real estate agent back in the day, I went and collected about 20kg of pippies and left them in the sun for about 2 weeks.
I ended up posting them through the letter box slot of the front door of his business.
Tre pungent.

Haha nice . I'm sure it was well deserved (bastards) .
Does anyone hunt?
Side boob in the summer time.
Does that count?
My brother is a massive hunting fan. So much so that he’d rather a weekend in the bush over a surf trip these days.
I’ve been a bit with him but never fully got in to it. Don’t have a gun licence

Hey Zen, is the Blake Ferguson fiasco getting any coverage in Japan?
My nephew is right into pig hunting. I don't see the attraction myself. I can't kill anything for fun. It's hard enough for me to kill a fish for the table. Like on Alone when a couple of competitors made a little pantomime with their fresh caught rabbit or squirrel- I instantly hated them and hoped they'd be the next to tap out. I was like ffs, it gave its life to sustain you on your stupid reality show, have some god damn respect! I really liked the bloke that was genuinely sad when he took a life. He had real heart in my eyes. Anyway, sorry bit off track.
Blake Ferguson? Made a little bit of the print/online news but not tv as far as I know. What a numbnut! Surely he must have been aware of Japans stance on drugs? Even weed here is very very risky.
I’m not a big fan of modern meat production, so I don’t buy supermarket or butcher meat. Where I do hunt, deer is an introduced species and is having a real impact on native animals. Deer have no predators, so are breeding stupid numbers and hunting is encouraged to reduce numbers. Wild venison, cleanly and humanly killed is a good thing. Back straps are about as good a cut as you can get. I don’t kill anything that goes to waste.
Ive never hunted but not against it, not sure how id feel killing a pig or deer or something i killed a duck we had and felt bad and couldn't even eat it.
And i kind of feel sorry for the big fish now and just take a photo and let them go* smaller ones are generally better eating anyway.
* In Australia, in Indo i keep the bigger ones because.
1. Explaining why i want to let them go would never be understood.
2. Id much rather help feed Indo family and friends
I should clarify- I'm not against hunting at all if it's for food or to keep feral animals in check. Hunting for sport or trophies doesn't sit well with me. And to show how hypocritical I am, venison backstrap, red wine and dark chocolate sauce. Oooh la la!
I've said this before but when I was a young, impressionable child an old hippie told me it's all just food regardless of where it comes from- the important thing is not to waste it, eat it with love and most importantly be thankful for it.
Bro only hunts deer and it always gets eaten.
You’re a sick individual if you take a life just for the sake of it, or to get some thrill out of it imo.
Like hunting pigs with a knife and dogs and just stabbing it? That’s fucked.
Anyway, everyone’s different
On TV now they're showing winter tuna caught in Aomori. Oma tuna is famous- 200+ kg. Real ocean wolves. The news said one went for over $200k AUD.
Looked nice too.

100% agree.
Pig hunting is brutal and cruel imo. Same goes for bow hunting. Both inflict unnecessary pain.
Yeah bow hunting can be efficient if the person is skilled and it’s a clean shot. Quick death.
But the margin for error is too big for my liking.
Pig hunters are a different breed. The fear the pigs must have in the last minutes of its life would be horrible.
At least hunting with a gun or bow (if used efficiently) the animal doesn’t know it’s coming
I’m not a Hunter myself but I know a fair few, including some real purists. I’ve also crossed paths with a few who like to go into the bush, get drunk and shoot things (anything). They’re not hunters.
It’s like any sport or past time - some people take care to do it properly, others are into it for some thrills and don’t give a damn. A good bow hunter won’t take the shot unless they know they’re going to get a clean kill. Because they know that they’re going to have to track a wounded animal through the bush to put it out of its misery. It’s no less brutal than shooting and wounding an animal if it’s done right.
I know bow hunters, been away with a few…I have never ever seen a kill shot that dropped an animal.
What do you hunt Roadie? And with what?
I’ve got a Bergara. Chase deer only, in NZ. Usually once a year until a few years ago.
Just started to look into Aus locations now.
feral animals, such as rabbits, foxes, pigs, dogs, cats and horses do such much damage in Australia. pigs are the worst. so destructive.
a coupe of years ago, I was back in my home town and bumped into an old friends...he reminded me of the time our local scout troup went off to some jamboree. all the kids from our local scout group turned up with a dozen rabbit traps each. we trapped the whole area and turned the jamboree into a rabbit skinning and drying factory. the other kids and adults were in shock and frightened of us. that's all we did as kids in my area -- hunt. I have a lot of karmic readjustment work to do.

Have a look at the problem in Texas with hogs. So much destruction.

I’m all for eradicating feral animals. Just do it with a gun I reckon. Don’t stab em and let them bleed out

Our bird attracting garden from the smallest of finches and honey eaters right up to kookaburras and owls is now barren except for Indian mynas. I have my partner’s agreement and personal will to now buy a trap and start eradicating the cnts.

Shooting deer in a field, with houses in the background. Not much sport or effort there.
This is an epic trip. A great place to visit..awesome views and cou8intry.

Ooh…that’s a moral conundrum. I’ve been there myself with bell miners. They displaced dozens of various species and I went through the same turmoil you are now. Then they just upped and fuvked off of their own accord. Thank Christ for that.
Indian mynas are my least favourite bird. I detest the aggressive little colonist fuvkers. But…they’re just animals doing their thing and any perspective you have on them is subjective and not supported by any natural laws of evolution or how an environment changes throughout time.
It’s all just personal aesthetics and sensibilities in the end. The natural world has never had a fixed moment of perfection which is entitled to be enshrined into perpetuity.
BTW….had a quad of feral cats move in and wipe out nearly all the natives after the miners took off anyway. It’s shithouse.
Used to shoot and trap pigs out west 25 or so years ago. All the pigs were sold to game meat processors (chillers) for export to the German market. Back then the safefood handling laws around the industry were pretty lax (rusty, dirty 4wds used for transport etc) .
And before the gun laws changed every second kid out west had access to at least a .22 . I have to agree on the dogging of pigs , I have seen it and it's quite gruesome. A lot of dogs get injured badly as well. If you needed stitches out there though, the pig doggers were the go to option if professional medical aid was to far away.
I also remember it was a major 'no no' legally for anyone to sty feral pigs and hold/pen them to fatten them up for any reason , and I think that was because of the potential to spread disease.
The damage feral pigs alone can do is staggering. Not just on crops but vegetation , native animals like frogs ,lizards etc , waterways/waterholes , fences etc and as mentioned the disease and viruses they can carry.

Gday Blowin,
Don't disagree with anything you say, its been a progressive Indian Myna invasion over the last 3 years and the final event that caused me to now act is seeing the female breeding magpie and her mate that have called our property home for years being relentlessly attacked by a dozen or more of the fuckers. The magpies have now disappeared.
I hate the idea of killing them but I equally hate the idea of letting them colonise the area even more. I'm also a big supporter of getting rid of all feral pests from our environment.
We have Bell and Noisy Miners also in our area but they are native species and its illegal to kill them. The RSPCA, many local governments and even vets* support the eradication of Indian Mynas so long as they are humanely killed (gassed with car or mower fumes).
* vets will kill for free or a small fee

I made a Thai mahi mahi curry last night. First time I have eaten in a curry. It’s so good.
Any other recipe suggestions?
goes great in a ceviche if fresh enough
or grilled with something like a mango salsa, or panko crusted, taco's
Panko crusted in tacos sounds pretty good. I will give that a try. Thx.
Yumm GF, soft shell or hard shell
Nice goofy. Those old windsurf boards still have a use.
I know a big guy that only surfs old windsurf boards. 5/6ft and he still gets out on them.
Dinner looks delicious.
Yeah they are so easy to make and healthy too.
Soft seaslug. But partial to both
Where are you fishing for them goofy?
Little place in Burringbar, NSW make primo tacos.
Dona Cholita is their name. Mexican woman using an old family recipe.
Best tacos in Australia, imo.

I am just finishing off the boat lic online course. Geeze, what a struggle to get finished. It’s a long slow course.
Did my boat license when I was 15. All you needed was your own boat, the instructor came out on the boat with you. He asked a few questions about safety and the rules, asked me to do a few simple maneuvers (he threw a lifejacket overboard then asked me to circle back and pick it up), then signed the license off. Took about 20 mins on the water. No written questions or anything else, just basically a quick practical test.
Me too G-man, it was farcical. I can't believe to this day I'm licensed to pilot a vessel up to 100ft after basically doing a couple of laps in a 5.5 metre half-cabin cruiser.
OK, so I want to try my hand at fishing. I have a couple of rods and reels, and an assortment of stuff in a shiny tackle box (Chrissy present from a few years back). I've got salt water and fresh water options close at hand (Narrabeen). But, I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.
Can anyone offer me some pointers? I'd really like to impress the missus.
