Mentawai
interesting stuff.. thanks ID
thanks for this - I was wondering. (Only after I heard that the human situation was under control)
Amazing to think how much these reefs move around - really makes it a dynamic destination for surfing. I've never been but I'm seriously considering it!
Unless you have been living under a rock, last Monday night the mentawais got hit by a Tsunami from a quake offshore from Macaronis, as a result Macaronis got the full brunt of the wave 2 charter boats were in the bay but are ok, Macaronis resort was hit real bad, all villas destroyed, main building badly damaged but everyone okay as they seeked shelter on the top floor.
The area that was hit was north and south Pagai, includes Macaronis, maccas rights, Silabu left, Batcaves, Greenbush, Rags left and right, Thunders left and right Malakopa rights.
Villages badly affected are Betemunga near Maccas (silabu ok) village at green bush, bat cave and Malakopa and other Villages up towards Sikakap and fisherman/coconut farmers camp's.
Maybee to soon to tell, but rumour(photo's) suggest, reef at Thunders has sunk back to how it was a few years before last quake, which is a good thing, expect same at rags, and possibly Malakopa is a fat right once again, Maccas and green bush wave/reef situation not known but ariel pics seem to show maccas left is fine.
If you have ever been to the mentawai's, now is a good time to give something back if you would like to help, by donation, check out www.surfaidinternational.org
