Northern NSW and South East Queensland Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 27th November)
Best Days: Thursday morning, early Friday, early Sunday-Tuesday morning in protected spots
Recap
An initial spike in S/SE swell was seen yesterday with OK winds for protected spots during the morning, but the swell pulsed further into the afternoon as winds shifted more S/SE.
Today the swell has eased back a touch but with more favourable winds opening up better waves across North Coast, while the Goldy was seeing a bit more action with 2ft+ sets across most beaches. A late kick in S/SE groundswell is expected this evening but this is discussed in more detail below.
This week (Nov 27-29)
A fetch of SE gales were projected up from the tip of New Zealand's South Island through the Tasman Sea towards the NSW coast Monday evening and Tuesday morning (pictured right). This has produced a good S/SE groundswell that should arrive later this evening but peak tomorrow morning to an inconsistent 3-4ft+ across most beaches open to the south on the North Coast, while the Gold Coast should see 2-3ft waves at open beaches and 4ft sets on the Tweed.
From here on the swell will slowly drop away as a result of the low weakening in the Tasman Sea with no new swell expected until Saturday.
Conditions tomorrow morning will be great again with light offshore winds, while Friday will see less favourable N/NW winds.
This weekend (Nov 30 onwards)
A couple of strong cold fronts will push up the East Coast from Friday through Sunday and this will produce a series of S'ly swell pulses from Saturday afternoon right through early next week.
Saturday's increase will be average and mostly windswell, with the swell growing out in period Sunday ahead of a longer-range and stronger S'ly groundswell pulse Monday. Winds generally will be less than ideal and from the S/SW to S/SE but we'll confirm this on Friday.
