For the Rye report at least whoever calls the surf size consistently under estimates the size. For my way of thinking two foot is very small, kid play. Like a small day at Pines for the kids. Three Foot also kids but getting a little bigger. 4 Foot, is starting to get decent for the rye coast, 5 foot is getting a good size either close outs esp on low tide. Bigger sets of 6 foot plus is seriously getting big probably reaching the limit for the Rye Coast.

The swell net reporter perhaps wanting to feel macho. Calls 4 foot days which are actually closing out. He called 4 Foot the other day ( I have photos) No one was surfing from Gunnamatta to Rye. one local guy paddled out at Rye and we could see him struggling up these bombs. But the macho guy from Swell Net called it 4 foot. The other issue with underscoring it by so much encourages so many people who perhaps can’t handle that actual size to come down and go surfing. Finally by calling what we would say 5 to 6 Foot and calling it 3 to 4 Foot means the scale is shortened as he has nowhere to go anything smaller becomes 2 foot. Which the most minds is kiddy play.
