Might as well put this up in the politics subforum, to spare the front page. It's 18 months away or so, but here we go.

This is how Dutton wins:

You are exactly right Andy .

Australians are also a great bunch of people , the best .

People all around the world , like and admire US .

With living in Australia , WE have a responsibility to make the MOST of it !

Its like getting an education , U have to use it to not only help yourself , but also your Community .

The World needs a Place like Australia 2 Lead !

We are NOT a Country where kids should have bits chopped off , or added on , due to Gender or Religious views .

We are not , generally a Woke Nation .

We are smart and CAN build Stuff !

We have Fun and have a Crack .

We don't like BS or throwing money away .

We are friendly , but don't fuck with US .

We love getting suggestions from others but hate being Told , what to do .

We will make up our OWN minds on important Stuff !

The Gas that is going out of WA , Royalty Free , MUST have been in the Original Contract 2 Fund these Projects , right at the beginning .

If SO , these Contracts MUST B honoured !

Honourable Countries honour Law and Order .

Woodside would NOT B allowed , by Australian Law 2 do this Tax Avoidance Gas Play .

No way , they pay tax at 30% , just like any company ,

Australians CAN get A Better Deal , IF we fund and build our OWN Project , right now .

The Premier that probably signed the agreement , probably need to give WA a boost with Employment , maybe ?

15 years ago , after the Original Contracts were signed , sealed and delivered , no one wanted to buy Woodside ( or BHP or Oil Companies ) , as the prices for their Raw Materials were low .

Since Global Warming came along , all have Flourished with the extra CO2 .

Must B like plants ( some people want to cut them down ) ffs !

What about Chevron and Exxon? 0 tax in the last 5 years. What compels you to defend them Pop? We raise more government revenue through the collection of fees from students than we do from gas. The deals have been done, then connect the dots on the politicians who did these shonky deals and the new jobs they hold with the benefactors of these laws.

soggy

I am not trying to defend Chevron , at all .

I want to tax the crap out of them .

As I said , this shit must have been part of the Contracts 2 originally Fund these Projects .

Otherwise , Stop it NOW ffs .

When these Original Contracts were signed , there was NO Gas industry in WA .

The Contracts were probably the Best the Politicians involved and who wanted development , could GET !

The North West Shelf , a Mighty Gas Field that could B doubled , was then Built .

With High gas prices these deals look Crap now .

Well bad luck , that shit happens .

Can't cry over split milk !

This shit shouldn't STOP us building our own NWS !

We can find , Fund it and Build IT , within 5 years if Fast Tracked imho .

Then ALL the Gas can be kept here and NO fn Foreign Multi National Oil company , can can advantage of US again .

I hate those guys being involved !

It then named a group of Politicians that had got jobs as Lobbyists .

The next Liberal Resources Minister also got a job in the Oil/Gas Industry and Joe Hockey who will work 4 anyone !

Martin worked 4 British Gas , after retiring .

LNP clearly ahead for first time in a Morgan poll since last election:

https://www.roymorgan.com/findings/coalition-enjoys-its-largest-two-part...

No joy in reporting that as I feel they would throw vulnerable people under the bus again without a moment's hesitation in the next medical happening. But ALP are losing people as people get squeezed, and in the background we're killing off our productive base rather than building one. Fwiw I've been watching announced ALP policies and their clamp down on the visa rorting, their green industry policy - sound good. Defence is good for continuity, I'm wondering how the uncrewed missile ships will go given they are very much still prototypes. The house building goal will never be reached as of limitations of labour and hyperinflation in building costs. Have never seen a time in Australia when increasing homelessness and rental/affordability of housing has been like this. Homelessness was always something overseas. It's also apparent we run a population ponzi economy to juice GDP, rather than a productive economy. How did we end up here, with such a rich amount of resources and an educated population? And the gas/energy situation in the east is a massive wtf and you might as well be a shareholder to get any sovereign wealth going.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-05-26/vested-interests-self-interest-an...

On housing and Dutton's solutions

"The most recent statistics from the Foreign Investment Review Board tell me that foreign investors purchased 1,339 established dwellings in 2021-22, the latest year for which data is available.

"If stopping foreigners from buying 1,339, 2,500, or even 10,000 properties would make a significant contribution to 'restoring the dream of home ownership', how much greater a contribution to that worthy objective might have been made by preventing the 171,727 domestic investors who were granted loans for the purchase of established dwellings in 2021-22 from having done so (or even reducing that number by, say, 20 or 50 per cent)?"

"For example, by abolishing negative gearing and reducing the capital gains discount for investors purchasing established (as distinct from new) residential properties," he said."

Dutton is still keen to let immigrants buy new homes even though there is a shortage of people to build them. His solution? overseas tradies will be given precedence to immigrate so they help relieve the problem, basically, let more tradies in so they can build new houses for new immigrants. What about letting them build for Australians and restrict foreign purchases? What ever happened to "look after Aussies first"? Basically he doesn't give a rats about the problem, it's all just smoke and mirrors to get elected only to maintain the status quo. It's perplexing that people actually believe what he says

So the gas cartel gets $150B of our common heritage, owned by all Australians, for nothing. Not one cent paid in royalties, by companies that pay no or virtually no tax, trash the environment, employ few Australians and funnel all the profit overseas.
What do these people have over our political class?
Surely it can't just be the political donations, they are only in the tens or few hundred thousands.
This happens across all our resource sector.
Is it just a coincidence that the last ten federal resources ministers, on both sides, went on to work, for big money, in the mining and fossil fuel sectors?
Is it just a coincidence that the Murdochs, who own a big hunk of our media and control the political narrative also own huge gas reserves?
Why is our media pretty much silent on this Godzilla of rip offs?
Whoever says they are going to stop this bullshit and tax these fuckers like the Norwegians and Qatari's do will get my vote. Until then I'm not voting for any of them.

Have always been fascinated by their ship design too.

As far as us, I can only think our pollies lack true appreciation of what we have, or are infected with an inferiority complex that sees them sell the place out cheaply. Times haven't changed from my grandfather busting his back working to be selling cane at 4pence a tonne then importing the refined sugar from the UK for my Nana's cakes. Only the country where the refining goes on, changes. It's nuts when you consider how educated Australians are.

VJ, just in regards to the difference between Western minds and Eastern minds in terms of art and Westerners tend to have an object (beit a person, fruitbowl etc) as a focal point and how Eastern art is more scenic for want of a better term.

I have a picture mounted on the wall done by my wifes son @ 6 years old and it's exactly as the presenter said- he basically drew what he saw out the window and I think it reinforces what the presenter was talking about in that it's almost in his DNA. I love the pic btw- it's pure innocence.

Edit: and ship design:

https://www.reddit.com/r/WarshipPorn/comments/nxdqz7/1103x699_ijn_fuso_l...

The tripod masts were developed into 11 separate pagoda levels of fire control equipment feeding into early mechanical computers, shells designed to hit underwater at extreme range. Very complex thinkers! British battleships diverged from the shared tripods into castle-like superstructures, very Saxon.

- yep, the attention to detail in that painting is impressive ;)
I first travelled to Japan as a youngster nearly forty years ago and it left an imprint that remains today.
....returned last year and loved it again.

& @zen, the 'eastern mind' development of one pointed focus is a building block of zen philosophy, art and meditation (pretty sure you're aware of that!)
& @vj, it's also a foundation principle of chi gong and taoist breathing practices and forms ;)

- all impressive cultural influences that nurture and develop skill and intuition that can then translate into artistic mastery...... (something, by the way, severely lacking in the candidates for the next federal election in our wonderful kakistocracy)
