What is your dream car? (if you had unlimited money)
Some great cars folks. Didn't know that about the boot and seats of the Fairlane, but it was drifting around gravel pans somewhere east of Ravy in a 1972 white ZF Fairlane that got me into them. Car had just driven directly across the gravel and dirt centre at 160km/h to get there. Beasts. Love the EH too, those used to be surf wagon par excellence. Had HJ, HZ, girlfriend had WB V8 ute, then had mint XW wagon.
It's nice to see front bench seats coming back in things like the 2020 Defender - so practical.

@Zen: I’ve started using imgbb after getting sick of imgur not working properly. Blowin suggested it in one of his comments a few weeks back. It’s heaps easier, just select the bbcode etc. Hope that helps....

OK bump to thread. Zen doesn't know how lucky he is. I've discovered the perfect young surfers little wagon; the problem is it's not really sold in Australia. As opposed to the dream supercars, how does this more everyman's fare sound? Little wagon, 3L/100km FWD hybrid so lessen your consumption/imprint dramatically (go further on less $), also AWD versions exist too for the snow, as do normal petrol versions with the uber-reliable 1NZ-FE.
Turn on the subtitles (settings/subtitles/Japanese-auto generated/click on subtitles again/auto translate/select your language) and you also get a hilarious computer driven translation. The poor Toyota engineer is introduced with: "I'm a cheap Shinichi from Toyota Motor Corporation", and there are gems such as "The first thing I did in Rio was play crash safety..."
Why don't we get these in Oz?!

Our neighbour just bought a Corolla Fielder hybrid. You're right, good little practical car. Pretty much the sales reps car of choice.
Lots of surfers use little 'Kei' vans here 3 cylinder, 660cc. Reliable, cheap as chips to run and low tax. My first Japanese car here was a Mitsubishi Bravo van- AWD. Best $1000 i've ever spent.
Having said that its sayonara or should I say auf wedersehen to my wifes A1 tomorrow. She's test driving a new A3 or maybe a TT if the numbers are right.

In all the doom and gloom got to take a new Aston-Martin Vantage for a surf check this morning. Rides a lot harder than the DB, only two seats and 4 less cylinders (4.0 twin-turbo V8). Fun ride.
No, even if I could afford one, which I can't, I wouldn't buy it. Just a nice experience for me from time to time.

I took the AM GT4, the racing version of the Vantage around the track at Abu Dhabi a few years ago. Scared the absolute crap out of me. But the noise was magnificent!!!
I'd never driven anything like that before so I didn't want to exceed my limits but managed to get to over 220k's near the end of the straight when the instructor said to brake at around the 150 meter mark.
What I can't believe is the F1 guys who hit over 320k's are braking at the 50 meter mark for a 70kmh corner!!! Exceptional reflexes!!!!
I'd love to do it again.

I drove the same guys Panamera turbo early one morning on our expressway- hit 270 kph before I had to back off, incredible feeling.
I drove my wifes old A4 S-line at 250 when we first picked it up, again so easy. Jap expressways are awesome.
Lucky to not lose my license.

But it's an import rule thing, Toyota Oz doesn't sell them, so it's a 5 year delay maybe and you have to go through a shop licenced to import/compliance them.
There are Jap sites that export globally, and if I wait a couple of years the ones with a more horn body kit will be available:

The young one has got it in his head that an 80 Series Cruiser might be a fun car to have for beach/travel when all this blows over. Has mates/cousins doing extreme 4wd. I was lucky as my work provided the training and the situations to use stuff like that and I do remember being bonnet deep in water ploughing through stuff, and going up mountain tracks in Tassie held up by 44 gallon drums filled with rocks (!) on the corners... And one where the track went up the spine of the mountain, you couldn't see road ahead, road on the sides, or road behind and I was watching the inclinometer well over 20 degrees and listening to the rear diff slip, then catch with the LSD - it was like taking off in an aeroplane - fun times :)
So for me, add a 60 series Cruiser to my list of everyman's dream cars...

Funny you mention that, bought my 60 at 14 years old and 285,000km, sold it with 445,000 - so technically it had made the moon and was swinging around for the return trip! Gotta stay on top of the oil changes but they are easy. 80's are at a low of their depreciation, so to find a nice clean one...
Saw on a YouTube vid that troopers were the only car ever designed by engineers with no input from marketing. They were given the spec to design a vehicle capable of 25 year life span under 3rd world conditions.
They are so good, I had the FJ73 as my first 4wd, the rare medium wheelbase FRP top with roll cage underneath. I could sling boards up to 9ft inside the fibreglass roof using the cage and straps, and the thing was a beast on sand :) Been looking for a good original LX auto for a couple of years with no luck...
My dream car is the Lamborghini Aventador SuperVeloce.
I am from Australia and a used one costs $800k+
A more realistic dream car for me would be the Audi R8 or Nissan R35
