Might as well put this up in the politics subforum, to spare the front page. It's 18 months away or so, but here we go.

This is how Dutton wins:

Oh look, here's a dinosaur.

He's got a point though. Australia hasn't been left since Whitlam - so fifty years ago - and I can really only point to two economic policies out of thousands over the decades that could be deemed 'left'.

Doesn't matter how you slice it, our major parties have been on the right side of politics since the 70s and almost every economic decision has also been shaped by right-wing politics.

We are a right wing country. If you've been told we're communist, socialist, or left you've been lied to.

In fact, Australia has never been further away from those ideologies as we are now, so if someone or something is telling you they're the problem then that voice needs to be questioned.

Great succinct post Stu.
It's truly tragic that people still fall for all that nonsense, it's been so detrimental to this country.
I've got faith though that the public will choose a crossbench which will chase, say, NACC reforms rather than choosing a muppet like Palmer who is just a shit dribbling windbag.

Indo, grab a textbook or at least a dictionary.
Or, if you'd like to point out how Australia's economy hasn't been fundamentally right-wing for the past 40 years, go for it.
And keep in mind which countries are on the top of the world's happiest countries - they're Nordic social democracies (and they're not even left wing, they're centrist, which shows how far to the right Australia is).
It's their level of democracy which sets them apart, there's a high level of trust between citizens and their institutions, something which has largely been destroyed in countries like the U.S. and is under real threat in Australia.
Remember that right-wing economic policies are the enemy of democracy.

Yeah well thats the point any country that has free markets, private ownership etc could be considered economically right wing.

True left wing economics only exist in communist and true socialist countries, and well they rarely exist because they fail.

And no, countries with a bit more social support networks or some more state owned asets doesn't mean they are suddenly left wing, the cake is still right wing, there is just a little more left wing icing on top.

And icing is good when there is a little on top, your's and my views just differs on how much icing should be on the cake.

Im happy with the icing we have, you want thicker sweeter icing like these Nordic countries.

If you want to look at things with a broader view and see where Australia sits in regards to the other 194 countries in the world looking at things like social support, social welfare support, public medical care, public education or a whole range of social issues from gun laws to abortion to the death penalty to same sex marriage and on and on

Of the 195 countries Australia would sit somewhere in the top 10 to 20 most progressive countries alongside countries like NZ or Canada.

Public education figures lowest ever as parents pull their kids out of public education into private. This will only increase and the public sector will continue to have to take those students from low socio disadvantaged with learning and behaviour problems. This makes the classroom not great for learning so parents who can will pull their kids out. Vicious cycle.

How ironic.

Clive Palmer's new party is called 'Trumpet of Patriots'.

The 'Trumpet' part refers not to a brass musical instrument, but is instead a reference to Donald Trump, whose agenda Clive wishes to import to Australia.

"-et" is a suffix that means "little, diminutive".

How ironic.

"honor omnia" translates to "honor everything".

Nothing like a one-size-fits-all slogan.

Like Clive honouring sacked workers by paying them what they were entitled to? Oh, that was only after the court made him. Well done, Clive.

I hate how countries that've killed all their fauna throw up some other animal, a fiercer one, as their sporting mascot.

The British Lions? Fuck off, they should be the Badgers.

Similarly, why's Clive using a lion when they've never pawed the Aussie soil? Throw that vuvuzela into a quokka's mouth, or a blue heeler, they're pretty loyal.

If Roy and HG hadn't done it first, I would've suggest Clive use a fat-arse wombat.

I think their logic is that the Springbok is a part of a Lion's staple diet. Or something like that. But I guess the poms are just dreamers!!!!

Looks like his lion went to the soccer world cup in 2010 and brough a souvenir back.
