The Daily Good News
No worries at all @zen.
Something i've come to realise is an anonymous voice means very little in sea of anonymous voices. Proofs in the pudding.
However having said that i know you all know who i am as i have posted my names several times so as to not hide behind an anonymous shield.
Shame you lot can't do the same when you put your own 'voices' to such issues.
If you can't back your own deepest darkest thoughts towards someone else or an issue up with your true identity...then what really are you on here??
Like i said. Not a healthy place to spend too much time.
So yeah, no worries.
Happy daily good news motherfuckers.
My full name is easy to find here if you look for it. My identity is no secret either.
Let's not go down the finger pointing path again though.
yeh, knowing someone's name means dick, cos we all ain't nothing, all it has meant here historically has been people puffing themselves up. Also would mean employers being able to be told by narc colleagues that you said you smoke dope on a surf site. Or took two weeks off 'for medical reasons' in the Ments. I'm Gerry. Gerry Waterhouse.
looks cool. all about the floppy saddle seat (or preferably lack of) for me and if you can happily ride with an upright(ish) back, like looking to the horizon with straight arms and your back at 45 degrees, @seeds.. I liked the CB350 that @blackers suggested..
Yeah I like that old Japanese retro look. And the long seat
An extra $2k for a 9 year newer bike, 40% + seems fair. The Suzuki looks okay. Board carrier is helpful possibly, but it ain't an "f" coz the fairing has disappeared. Could be a sign of a ,"gold watch" event (cheers Zen :)). They are good basic bikes but the Honda looks a bit more schmick. Triumph Scrambler 400x looks nice in the size you are talking.

Just checked, standard Gs500 of that vintage is around $2200- 2600
Honda = Reliability.
That's a selling a point.
honda defo more stylish
more canggu chic and reliable
win win
hate to be a killjoy... but are those surf racks legal in oz?
some states?
been gonna put some on a bike for years, but just assumed in overmanaged oz it's a definite no no...
legal(ish) in japan?
Oooh Syp Canguu chic. No thanks mate.
Plenty of board racks on scooters but good point no idea on bikes
Yeah you guys are leading me towards a Honda
Heard about EV bikes today. Would you? Lack of motor rumble. Great as a commuter in busy city.
Bikes look awesome. Expensive some. Dirt bikes look great. Wonder what that’d be like?
Remember this coming from someone that hasn’t ridden a bike that had a clutch and gears in 30 years. Just scooter’s overseas.
I changed my “handle” to take the throttle back to idle, kick down the stand and have a read of this.
Bloody good Aussie story of the first man to summit Everest.

Lions Women’s into the GF next week.
Let’s make it a double ladies!!
Went and checked out the ‘73 Honda today. Looks good but not for 7G. He wouldn’t budge and I’d like to spend a bit on it such as re chroming wheels etc. Be a money pit.
Ended buying the Suzuki. Its pristine. Lovely frame adaptation for cafe racer seat. I’ll be taking the board racks off. Better heading for a surf with everything in a car.
Ace, well done. Enjoy.
It got scrambler treads on it, but I wouldn’t go far off piste with it. Couldn’t see a rear light cluster, they are helpful.
you should get your gold watch before christmas @blackers, and race @seeds to Ayumi&Craig's for the 1st birthday, haha.
(my daily good news: flew to adelaide last week for Test Tube Babies, Shoulda Been Here Yesterday and a wedding. Just arrived back at Mt G airport. NO CAR KEY!! unpacked my crap twice. Asked the price of a rental car and taxi, crazy, and I don't have a spare key at home anyway.. just emailed Adelaide, and asked them to look... then went and asked at lost property. They had it! I'd dropped it here before I left. Currently doing a happy dance in the empty airport!!)

Yeah I asked about the rear light cluster. It’s there apparently.
Told him you can’t sell it with rego (Qld) without safety cert. He’s sorting it.
Funnily enough I was following a bike very similar today and that what looks like electrical conduit at rear of seat is the LED lights and I saw them in action. Even the number plate light as he had his lights on.
And rego check says it is currently registered

Highland fling I hope.

Re off piste. Maybe falling off pissed.
I did ask about traction on road with that tread. That’s what I was more concerned about when the bitumen was wet.

What a great outcome. Awesome luck.

Good stuff as someone else would say. I'm sure its fine, just couldn't see the lights in yer pic. Those treads will be good as long as you go too hard on the corners.
.
and so it begins...Looking good.
Small east coast surf but have been getting the groms (9 and 7) out.
9yo is adamant that he wants to paddle into his own waves now. Taking plenty of licks but good to see his application. Cool to watch him adjusting his balance and weighting and finally making some angled takeoffs.
7yo is now getting up consistently on a 7’0 foamie and loving it. Got a cool little style too.
So rewarding. Little frothers.

Wow this is going to be quite the story.
misfired hamas nazi strike bound for kosovo? hang on @craig, need to process the words..
ah, yup! wow, that's epic..
That is awesome news, thought it was definitely a recovery search only after 2 weeks. Well done to all involved and am mighty big lesson to the young-un.
Great Outcome....But a Med Student that did everything Wrong .

That’s incredible
I read he wants $100k+ to share his story in the media. Be good if he donated it to the orgs that spent time and money searching for him.
Indeed.
Looks like he might have found the Opera House hut, one of the most inaccessible places out there, aptly named as the cost per square metre to build it was more than the Opera House.
It's at the base way beyond places we ski in winter spring and very isolated. Guessing from there he climbed up the valley between Carruthers Peak and The Sentinel.
Did he not have a map?
Compass?
How did he get lost?

How did he get lost though?
Was there bad weather?
There are so many landmarks around there. Did he not have a map or compass?

Apparently he had stopped to take some photos, probably went for a bit of a bash to get the perspective he wanted and couldn't find his way back to the trail. He ended up 60 k's in the other direction from where he was headed so perhaps the map and compass was with the others in his group. Good idea to carry your own. An epirb when back country walking is advisable too, however I did hear you can get an emergency location and emergency signal via satellite using an iPhone 14 or later, don't need a phone signal
I'm struggling to conceive of how you get could so lost there. So many high vantage points and ridge lines and peaks to orient yourself with.
Maybe in blizzard conditions but in fine weather?
Anyhow, great he has been found alive and well.
Maybe hikers need some basic competency tests or safety equipment before they are allowed in the park.

In this day and age I tend to get suspicious with stories like this.
Being hungry for two weeks in exchange for six figures sounds pretty easy.
When I go walking or 4wding which is usually in quite remote areas, I use the Topo GPS app, extremely detailed and works offline as long as you've got a line of sight to the sky.
Notwithstanding a flat battery, it's almost impossible to get lost using it.
Modern apps are basically idiotproof.
And little battery banks will recharge your phone 10 times over.
The bloke was an idiot for a so called experienced bush walker.......kept moving instead of finding an area where he could be spotted....wearing dark greys and green clothing ..........and not leaving any sign of which way he was moving .......bla....all bush walkers should carry an epirb......if he sells his story he should donate some of it to help the organizations which was mentioned above who spent a lot of time finding him.
also maybe he read this blokes story
