Women
Mine too Goofy.
Southern… Seedsy jumped in reflexively, cuz, sensing your elevated state of communication, saw that AndyM was in for a beating.
He has been dragged along since then. Please let him go.
The greater convo you seek will not occur without that.
I don’t believe Swellnets business model is geared towards women, nothing wrong with that Southern. Stop trying to be a saviour. Women and fucking tough man. Feminism means being treated as equals. Women don’t need you to save them champ.

A word that seems a little out of place on Swellnet.
Discuss if you dare.
Lets invite some women into this conversation.
Ask your female friends to join and contribute.....again...if you dare.
Lets see if the blokes of Swellnet can make space in the shed for some...other humans.
Question> Why are there no females on Swellnet, except for maybe 2 or 3 that have stayed true (respect legends).
Would love to see more women post here, i do think its a bit about age, while there is younger posters here, posters seem to be mostly be 40+ often in their 50-60s and there isn't much older women surfers as even starting surfing in the late 80s there was only one girl who surfed at school, even in the 90s they were a real novelty in the water, now its very different lots of girls surf where i live.
So yeah i think it has a bit to do with age, i think younger people in general are less likely to post in forums and more likely to stick to social media.
BTW. last few Indo trips we have had female surfers stay and it's been such a joy to surf with them, they have been the biggest frothers spending crazy hours in the water, and one girl would passionately wait her turn out the back for the inside position and then only take the biggest sets (not huge, but well overhead) and then surf with so much style, the sisters that stayed this years were great value on land too.
So yeah female surfers if your out there reading dont be shy, join the conversation.

Linking Rogan and women together, this for me is one of the best Rogan episodes, this women is an amazing person.
"Megan Phelps-Roper (born January 31, 1986) is an American political activist who is formerly a member of, and spokesperson for, the Westboro Baptist Church, a Hyper-Calvinist Christian sect, widely regarded as a hate group.[1][2] Her mother is Shirley Phelps-Roper, and her grandfather is the church's founder, Fred Phelps.
She grew up in Topeka, Kansas, in a compound with other members of the church.
As a child, she was taught the Westboro Baptist Church doctrine and participated in the church's pickets against homosexuality, the American response to the September 11 terrorist attacks, and the funerals of soldiers who died in the War in Afghanistan and the War in Iraq. In 2009, she became active on Twitter to preach the church's doctrine.
Phelps-Roper began to doubt her beliefs when Twitter users pointed out contradictions in the Westboro Baptist Church's doctrine, and when elders changed the church's decision-making process.
Phelps-Roper left the church in 2012 after she was unable to reconcile her doubts with her beliefs. Following her departure, Phelps-Roper became a prominent critic of the church's philosophy and practices. She travels around the world to speak about her experience in the church and advocates dialogue between groups with conflicting views. In 2019, she released the memoir Unfollow: A Journey from Hatred to Hope."
BTW. While i dont mind him, i wouldnt say it's Rogan im a fan of as such, it's more just the people he has on and relaxed conversation that is in depth and about anything.

Q. Why are there no females on swelllnet ? I think a female would be best at answering this question . I can only assume or try and guess the answer so I’ll take a stab at it . Not interested in the forums . Possibly prefer talking face to face about topics that interest them . Some may read the conversations on these threads and think WTF ? There may be many signed up but like some blokes are only interested in the forecasts and don’t wish to participate in discussions for whatever reasons . Some females may just not have the time to spend reading and writing on forums for a whole range of reasons, like having a life , haha . I think indo’s take on age also has something to do with it . Plenty of females that surf( and those that don’t ) know how to stand up for themselves and are intelligent, interesting and thoughtful humans. I too would like to see more females participate in discussions on swellnet , why you may ask ? To read their take and perspective on subjects . At the end of the day though, they may find it doesn’t really interest them after reading some of the shit that comes out from all of us blokes at times . They may prefer to spend more of their free time surfing .

I reckon you will look great in a bikini too , hope ya bring home the trophy .
Whahaahaa
Make sure you wear it around the right way Seeds.
I have an answer to the original question.
The reason why few women are on Swellnet is simply there is nothing interesting here for them. For example, women are not interested in chatting about bear hunting, chainsaws and how to self-suture a gaping chest wound. Conversely, men are not interested in chatting about endometriosis, flower arranging or great places for brunch. It's that simple, I shouldn't have to spell it out.
But, but, men and women are exactly the same Zen.
I'm so disappointed with your continuing support of the patriarchy.
jeepers, I hope most, like me and @AW, got an early night and early surf..
I reckon you're on it @zen. I'm off for a long, well-earned brunch with friends..
er, I mean trip to the Stihl shop..
@Zen my stage name is Fly’s Eyes.
And I reckon you’re right. Like I was trying to get across to SR last night, they probably have their own spaces for their own interests.
And I re iterate there wouldn’t be a person here that wouldn’t engage respectfully with a lady commenter.
^^ my eyes hurt!
Fuck me. What a load of tripe.
Now Zenagain is the problem?
Oh my, Botany Nerds Ahoy is anti women?
Stop making a fool of yourself Paul!
And sadly,as you say, your post ain’t taking the piss and that makes it all the worse.
I’m concerned for you. This is just silly.
Just wow.
You all good sr?
You’re up and down and all over the place like a mad woman’s breakfast.
I honestly thought you’d been hitting the ice pipe the night you made this thread.
No judgement here, you’re sounding pretty frazzled though
Im a fan of Zen and me and SR and me dont get on, but i dont think the subject matter is really a factor with women who surf not posting here much.
The female surfers ive hung out with in Indo (lots of down time) talk about pretty much everything we talk about here, from Bali and travel, to house prices, to music and movies, to climate change even Trump and of course as surfers, surfing and even board design and surfing experience's and stories.
Again i think its more an age thing younger surfers post here less than older surfers, this forum is pretty active but forum's are kinda dead compared to early days of the net, its all social media these days for younger people, plus many d nt have the time to talk shit in a forum full of old guys who have too much time on their hands.
And i think its also just a numbers game, while surfing is much more popular with women these days, they are still a small minority and its only a tiny tiny percentage of Aussie surfers that post here.
Plus even if there is the female poster that pops in from time to time, its not like she is going to always have a name that indicates she is female or say hey im a female, just so you know, maybe you can treat me differently now.
take a breath @sr. It is a good topic, and I'm sure many would enjoy to look at it, I know it has be discussed sensibly before, I remember @stu having some views on it.
reckon a lot of us would have some constructive things to say in a less combative and judgmental thread, women surfers included, alas, not many spaces stay calm and productive for long (which may be part of the issue). so it is as it is. For what it is worth I know of one female commenter, and suspect 3 or 4 others (there are certainly some great femme watchers/commenters on the live comps, often from the US - one from Nth Carolina is prolific ), but they duck in, duck out for infrequent comments when there's something interesting on the go, usually upstairs, (the forums down-below seem to be for varying degrees of argy-bargy, for better or worse, in often pretty pointless, polarised, circular arguments). Agree our sisters have challenges we take for granted, but also don't need our help or pity. Just understanding and respect.
maybe we can revisit this fresh in a few weeks @southern. Hope the study is going well mate.
Southern, mate, it was a joke- you know, humour, trying to lighten the mood.
When I get a chance, I will give you a detailed and respectful reply. You might be a bit surprised when I reveal a little more about myself to you.
But for now, I don't have the time, I've got waves to chase and that downtrodden woman of mine is running that mouth of hers in the kitchen. Something about not paying her enough attention or something like that. Dunno, wasn't really listening.
Edit; btw, if I'm ever over your way I'll take you out to brunch (if you know a good place?) all I ask in return is you help me recognise a redneck- they sound like something I want nothing to do with.
Just quickly- what is/was this campaign of mysogyny? I thought one of his platforms was "we're gonna protect our women whether they like it or not." Sounds like he's paraphrasing you. Second, I think this runs a bit deeper. You make no effort to hide your hatred of Trump, that's a given. The other day I pointed out I met with a very pleasant young lady from Alabama and we touched on the election. She and her cohort were voting for Trump. Does that not speak to you in any small way? A young, black, educated, informed WOMAN not getting behind a middle-aged, educated, informed black woman. This girl is not an exception to the rule either.
I dunno about you but that speaks volumes to me.
southernraw wrote:For those wondering if i'm ok.
Not really but thanks for asking. Goofy i've never touched that shit in my life.
I take it very seriously that the men of this current generation especially the younger generation see somebody like Donald Trump the misogynist who used a campaign full of misogyny and policies of misogyny as their pin up boy and that his kind of behaviour is embraced and encouraged. What this teaches young boys? All around the world? The ramifications of this go beyond politics and it for sure has set me off big time. People on here keep saying 'you're not their saviour' etc etc. Fuck of course not. But men have overwhelmingly voted against women and right now women need us by their side because who's got their backs at the moment? Imagine how it feels to be a woman right now, here or over there knowing this is how the male world currently feels about you and your place in the world. Fight i fucking will.
So yeah, the timing right now, i'm snapping hard at anything that has any semblance of those kind of traits.
Like @basesix said, maybe best to chill and go surf and revisit it in a few weeks when the rage i'm feeling about this subsides a little bit.
I'll stick to the surfing upstairs.
btw just wanna add this isn't just about women. This is about fathers with sons being clear that people like Donald Trump aren't how men should act. Donald Trumps clear weaknesses of character should be pointed out to young boys at every chance as an example of what not to be.
Agreed SR, Trump is a disgraceful character.
It is a natural reaction to become enraged at things like this, but anger never achieves anything positive.
Stay calm and state your case and bring it to the attention of those you meet.
This article is worth a read.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-11-10/donald-trump-win-4b-movement-male...
Trump is not even in the White House yet, but the dregs of society are making their presence felt.
Given the abundance of Trump devotees in Australia, it's only a matter of time before it rears its ugly head here. It must not be allowed to gain a foothold.
Don't you fucking dare run away pal- you started this. You wanna have a serious discussion about women?
I'm gonna surf too. I'll get back to you later.
And some.
But it wasn't just one woman though wasn't it.
southernraw wrote:Fark me @salty. That is truly horrifying!!
Maybe @zen could read this and see if he want's to modify his last post re. misogyny because he knows that one educated black woman voted for trump. Fark me.
@zen, i've got nothing to add. Go back and read my posts.
And until there's some women commenting here, it's all hot useless air isn't it.
@SR
I'm really lost for words to describe it. I could never understand the mindset behind supporting a person like Trump, even some of the most intelligent people I have met support him.
My wife and I often chat with another couple we see on our daily walk. He, like my wife, suffers from Parkinson's, so we have some common ground: he is also a retired anaesthetist, so clearly an educated, intelligent man.
He raised the topic of Trump and what shocked me was his statement that he did not consider the character of Trump relevant to the position of POTUS, but considered only the policies he espoused.
I suspect there are many others like him.
Where the hell is society going???
Maybe the women non posters respect that this organic men’s space is natural, healthy, and helps curb male depression and suicide
Like we do in turn for them
I reckon you’re fighting against nature SR,
and causing harm doing it
So far, a bunch of middle aged and older men talking about what women might want and need? This is how bad laws get made!
I’d just like to point out that the woman at the bowls club may well be just fine.
Strong woman. Spoke her mind without hesitation even if she mistook what Andy and mates were doing.
Southern just assumes she’s suffering some deep trauma because Trump won. Is she ok etc etc.
My wife and work colleagues say fuck can you believe Trump won and don’t give it a second thought.
Southern, what right have you got to make assumptions about a woman you don’t know?
Then start accusing forum members of creating such a toxic misogynistic environment that women won’t post.
Maybe she might tell you to take a hike too for being a patronising ……..
Women.
A word that seems a little out of place on Swellnet.
Discuss if you dare.
Lets invite some women into this conversation.
