Apparently the east coast of Australia isn't the only place that had abnormal weather and surf conditions over summer. South Australia also had an unusual season with a relatively light run of swell, especially for the often swell-soaked Eyre Peninsula.

Things appear to have turned the corner if this sequence is anything to go by. 'Pistol' Pete Tomlinson gives the 21 Gun Salute to a grinding South Australian barrel welcoming autumn back with a blast.

For many years following that incident sponsor stickers and cameras were guaranteed to raise the ire of locals. The other surfers are Sam Jervis, owner of EP Surfshop in Port Lincoln, and local ripper, Pete Tomlinson.
