Fanning and Parko and the West Coast Welcoming Committee
It was only so many years ago that a troupe of pros surfers were violently evicted from the west coast of South Australia. For many years following that incident sponsor stickers and cameras were guaranteed to raise the ire of locals. The younger generation of west coast locals have a different outlook however. Recently, Joel Parkinson and Mick Fanning visited and were met by a very different welcoming committee. The following is by photographer, Fredo:
"Had an evening session with Parko and Fanning last night at xxxxx. It was around 3-4ft but mega high-tide. Instead of being a barrel it turned into this high-performance running wall. The light was magic. Then we all went to the pub after a HUGE autograph session went down on the point for the kids. It's a small town and I don't think there was one kid who didn't get something signed. Bloody great guys – think I'm still a little star-struck myself..."
