Fins-free down the face and then small tweaks in direction to thread one from deep inside the pack.
This Friday the North Shore will see a large groundswell out of the NW which should produce solid 10 foot sets at exposed reefs. Not only this, the swell is likely to move accumulated sand off the reef at Pipe in readiness for the Pipeline Masters.
Harrison Roach recently displayed his versatility on a longboard. Better known for his smooth longboard style on the mellow Noosa points Harrison successfully adapted his act to the intensity of Pipe. Photographer Jack Dekort caught him going through his paces while riding a classic Hawaiian downrail pintail.

Pipe surfers had just a small window of opportunity to fill their quota this morning. According to Swellnet photographer, Jack Dekort, morning wind conditions were close to perfect with just a light offshore puffing. For a few hours Pipeline pumped with Kelly Slater, amongst many others, putting on a great display of surfing on his quad. It was a short-lived session, however, with the wind swinging onshore around lunch.

For a few hours Pipeline pumped with Kelly Slater, amongst many others, putting on a great display of surfing on his quad. For those who didn't tune into the Volcom webcast John John Florence beat Jamie O'Brien in a final for the ages. Sitting on 19.40 points it seemed JOB only had to count down the clock to win. Kai Barger was his closest competitor on 18.20. Then, with five minutes remaining John John scored a ten pointer at Pipe to get within striking range. From that point on JOB tailed him around the line-up sitting shoulder to shoulder to stop the young fella getting anther wave. A set came through wiith around 30 seconds on the clock, John John sprint paddled to break free then spun late on a bomb.

The organisers of the Volcom Pipeline Pro have been handed an ideal waiting period. The North Shore is seeing an abundance of swell and the organisers plan to pick the eyes out of it. Hence today, with Pipe pumping at six feet, they canned it for better surf. The next big swell hits in two days so the opening hooter should blow soon enough.
Tom Carey was on hand for another action packed lei day at Pipe.
