Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 13th November)

Best Days: Monday morning Perth and Mandurah, Tuesday morning Perth and Mandurah, Thursday morning

Recap

Light winds and a bit more swell leftover than expected across Perth and Mandurah yesterday with sets to 2ft or so, small and bumpy across the South West.

An approaching front created deteriorating conditions into the afternoon while this morning we've got lumpy/bumpy conditions and a building W/SW groundswell across Mandurah and Perth, larger in the South West but bumpier.

We should see the large, new long-period W/SW groundswell reaching 8-10ft+ across the South West later today, 3ft across Mandurah and 2-3ft in Perth as onshore winds create bumpy conditions, though workable in Mandurah and Perth.

Chunky new groundswell

This weekend and week (Nov 14 - 20)

Unfortunately the weekend ahead isn't too flash at all with an approaching mid-latitude frontal system due to bring onshore winds tomorrow and Sunday with a drop in W/SW groundswell from today.

Strengthening W/NW winds will leave no real options tomorrow as today's groundswell backs off from the 8ft range across the South West and 2-3ft to the north.

Sunday will be a bit smaller again across the South West but likely not drop below 6ft while Perth and Mandurah should continue around 2-3ft as mid-period swell energy fills in from the mid-latitude front.

Strong W/SW tending W'ly winds will continue to create poor conditions, persisting into Monday but weaker across the South West with variable winds due around Perth and Mandurah.

A new pulse of slightly stronger W/SW swell will fill in as well Monday, produced by the frontal progression projecting towards us today and over the weekend with good 6-8ft sets due across the South West, most consistent into the afternoon and 3ft surf across Mandurah, 2-3ft in Perth.

Make the most of the early variable winds before they shift onshore late morning.

Tuesday should be cleaner in Perth and Mandurah with a light morning offshore wind and easing W/SW energy from 2-3ft. Margs looks to remain onshore with a moderate W/NW breeze.

Our next pulse of swell looks to arrive from the SW, with a late forming low due to generate a pre-front fetch of severe-gale W/NW winds, with weaker trailing post frontal winds.

A front drawn up from the back of this low will bring onshore winds to all coasts Wednesday as the swell peaks, with surf at this stage looking to come in at 5-6ft in the South West, 2ft in Mandurah and 1-2ft across Perth.

We'll hopefully see offshore winds Thursday as the swell eases, but more on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
