Weaker swells but a couple of fun days
Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 24th December)
Best Days: Tuesday morning across the South West, Saturday morning all locations, Monday morning South West magnets
Recap
Clean though small leftovers across the South West magnets Saturday morning, tiny to the north. Our new swell for Sunday showed some good size early and conditions were favourable for protected spots with sets reaching 4-6ft across the South West and 1-2ft in Mandurah, tiny in Perth.
The swell is easing from a similar if not slightly smaller size today with workable but not great winds.

This week and weekend (Dec 25 – 30)
The swell is now on the ease and we'll continue to see it drop into tomorrow and Wednesday. Margs should still see sets around 4ft+ tomorrow morning with cleaner conditions under a SE-E/SE offshore, tiny to the north. Afternoon sea breezes will create average conditions so surf before lunch.
Our poor run of winds and smaller surf from Wednesday is still on track, with a likely dawn S/SE”ly due to swing S/SW by mid-morning. With no decent size Wednesday looks to be a lay day.
A couple of weak mid-latitude fronts clipping or pushing across us will bring average W/SW-SW winds on Thursday and fresh but moderating SW winds on Friday with some small new mid-period SW swell building through the day and peaking Saturday morning.
Winds in the swell generating fetch will only be strong in nature and fail to get close to gale-force, but we should see surf to 4-6ft across the South West, 2ft in Mandurah and 1-2ft in Perth.
Conditions looks to become a little cleaner Saturday morning with a light variable wind across the South West, (S/SE to the north) ahead of sea breezes.
As the swell eases Sunday an onshore wind looks to sneak back in, cleaner Monday but small and easing from the 3ft range across Margs.
Longer term there's still nothing major on the cards with weak benign fronts and cut-off lows moving through our swell window, but more on this Wednesday. Merry Christmas!
