Good swells this period, though with tricky winds
Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 10th December)
Best Days: Protected spots Wednesday morning, Thursday morning Margs, protected spots Saturday, Sunday morning
Recap
Pumping clean and building surf Saturday across the South West as a new SW groundswell filled in, fun in both Perth and Mandurah.
The swell eased off through Sunday with an early window of good conditions across Margs, less so to the north with S/SE breezes. Winds quickly shifted across Margs as well, creating poor conditions from late morning.
The swell has eased further today with less than ideal winds across the South West, cleanest around Mandurah.

This week and weekend (Dec 11 – 16)
Our new SW groundswell due tomorrow is still on track, with a strong fetch of gale to severe-gale W/SW winds (slightly stronger than forecast last Friday) being generated through our south-western swell window over the weekend.
The swell will build rapidly through the day and peak into the afternoon, with 6-8ft sets due across the South West, 2-3ft waves in Mandurah and 2ft sets in Perth.
Unfortunately a weak front pushing into us tomorrow will bring onshore winds to all regions, from the SW in Perth and Mandurah, W around Margs.
Wednesday will be a touch better with a S/SE breeze across all locations as the swell eases back from 6ft+, 2-3ft and 2ft respectively, cleaner again Thursday with an offshore E/NE'ly and best around Margs with easing 3-5ft sets.
The swell will continue to ease into Friday with a morning offshore, but into Saturday we're due to see a large long-period SW groundswell fill in.
A deep and powerful low is expected to form around the Heard Island region tomorrow, with a great fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/SW winds being generated, with the low weakening slightly but continuing to generate W/SW gales in our swell window.
We should see a large long-period SW groundswell created, arriving late Friday but peaking Saturday to 8-10ft across the South West, 3ft in Mandurah and 2ft in Perth with strong and tricky S/SE winds, tending slightly more SE Sunday as the swell eases.
Therefore protected locations are the go for a wave over the weekend to make the most of the new swell. Longer term there's nothing too significant on the cards, but check back here Wednesday for the latest.
