Fun swells over the coming period with workable winds
Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 8th November)
Best Days: Both coasts tomorrow morning, protected spots over the weekend and Monday, Tuesday morning
Recap
A slight bump in swell yesterday to a fun 3ft+ across the Margaret River region with offshore winds until midday, while Perth and Mandurah remained tiny.
The swell has dropped back into this morning leaving no decent swell at all.
This week and weekend (Nov 9 - 12)
Later today we should see a new W/SW swell starting to build across the state, peaking tomorrow morning.
This swell was generated by a small tight mid-latitude low earlier this week.
Margs should see good 5-6ft sets tomorrow morning with 2ft waves around Perth and Mandurah. Winds are still a little dicey for the South West, but the weather developing directly offshore should hold off for dawn, with a light E/NE'ly before the trough drifts east bringing onshore S/SW winds. Perth and Mandurah will be similar.
Lingering S'ly winds will be seen into Friday as the swell eases, favouring protected breaks.
Our new W/SW swell for Saturday is still on track, as is the secondary reinforcing swell for Sunday afternoon and Monday.
Saturday's swell is being produced by a tight and intense mid-latitude low that's forming north-east of Heard Island. We'll see a quick burst of severe-gale W/SW winds projected through our western swell window, producing good 6ft surf across the South West and 2ft+ waves to the north.
The low will dip away to the south-east as a secondary polar front projects a fetch of broad and slow moving strong to gale-force W/SW winds through our south-western swell window.
We should see a reinforcing SW swell arriving into Sunday afternoon, keeping the South West up around 5-6ft or so into Monday morning and 2ft on the sets around Mandurah and Perth.
Winds won't be too favourable for exposed breaks though with a S/SE tending S/SW breeze Saturday, similar but stronger Sunday. Monday may see a touch more SE in the wind, but we'll have another look at this Friday.
The swell will fade through next week with slowly improving winds, while our next swell is likely out of the S/SW Friday. More on this in a couple of days.
