Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 11th March)

Best Days: Saturday, Sunday morning protected breaks, Monday morning

Recap

Onshore winds and a small swell yesterday morning across the South West, with tiny offerings further north which became wind affected through the day.

Today also started slow with good winds across the South West and 3ft of swell, but into the afternoon a new long-period SW groundswell should show, reaching 5-6ft+ by dark but with afternoon sea breezes. Perth isn't due to see any size until overnight.

This weekend and early next week (Mar 12 - 16)

This afternoon's building SW groundswell is due to peak tomorrow morning and we should see strong 6-8ft sets across the South West, with the odd 10ft bomb at times, easing through the day and further down into Sunday morning. Perth should see 2ft sets before easing into the afternoon.

Into Sunday afternoon though a good reinforcing SW groundswell is due, ahead of a secondary better pulse Monday morning.

These swells will be generated by the same system, that being a strong frontal system producing a pre-frontal fetch of gale to severe-gale W/NW winds, followed by post-frontal W/SW gales.

Margs should kick back to 4-5ft+ later in the day with the first pulse, peaking Monday morning to a good 5-6ft from the second better aligned pulse, if not for the chance of the odd bigger bomb early.

Perth isn't due to see much size with inconsistent 1-1.5ft waves Sunday, possibly to a better 1-2ft Monday morning.

Conditions tomorrow are looking excellent with an offshore E/SE breeze across most locations ahead of afternoon sea breezes, with stronger less favourable SE winds Sunday.

Monday should be good again with E/NE offshores, tending N/NW into the afternoon, so get in before lunch.

A gradual drop in size is expected through Tuesday as a weak onshore change moves through, possibly lingering into Wednesday and Thursday. The models diverge on the developments for mid-late next week, so have a check back here Monday for more on this. Have a great weekend!
