Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 13th November)

Best Days: Saturday morning, Monday and Tuesday mornings in the South West

Recap

Good building swell across the South West yesterday from 4-5ft early to 6-8ft through the morning and bigger into the afternoon. Conditions were best through the morning though before strong sea breezes kicked in. Perth and Mandurah were tiny and slow early, with the sea breeze in by the time the swell kicked.

Today the swell was still strong and in the 6-8ft+ range across exposed spots in the South West at dawn with fresh E/SE winds. The swell has since started to ease, so get out there ASAP. Perth and Mandurah were also offering good waves in the 2ft+ range this morning with crisp clean offshores.

This weekend (Nov 14 - 15)

Head out for a surf tomorrow morning as onshore S/SW winds are due into Sunday with a smaller swell.

Tomorrow we should still see 4-6ft sets across the South West with offshore E/NE winds at dawn, tending NE through the morning and then lighter N/NW into the afternoon. Perth will be small and easing from 1ft to maybe 2ft.

Next week onwards (Nov 16 onwards)

Our small weak pulses of W/SW swell from a couple of mid-latitude lows are still on track for Monday morning and Tuesday morning.

The size is looking a little less than forecast Wednesday though, with 3-4ft+ waves due Monday morning across the South West with 3-5ft surf Tuesday morning. Perth will hardly reach 1ft.

Conditions look great with a light to moderate E/SE'ly Monday morning and then E/NE winds Tuesday morning.

Into Wednesday we'll see a strengthening mid-latitude frontal system directing a slow moving fetch of strong to gale-force W/SW tending SW winds into the south-west of the state, kicking up a building windswell Wednesday, possibly peaking in the large range Thursday morning.

The models diverge on the strength and intensity of this system though, so check back here on Monday for an update on how this might evolve. Have a great weekend!
