Improving but easing surf
Victoria Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 22nd May)
Best Days: Sunday both coasts, Monday through Tuesday exposed breaks, Wednesday both coasts, Surf Coast Friday and into the weekend
Recap
Poor conditions in general with plenty of swell but fresh to strong onshore winds.
This weekend (May 23- 24)
A strong SW groundswell that's hard to see across the coast today under the onshore winds, is due to ease back through tomorrow, and further Sunday, although this easing trend will be slowed by a reinforcing SW swell filling in tomorrow.
The Surf Coast should ease just a touch from 3-4ft tomorrow morning, down from the 3ft range Sunday, with the Mornington Peninsula easing from the 6ft+ range tomorrow and then from 5-6ft Sunday morning.
Conditions will remain poor tomorrow with a moderate S/SW'ly, while Sunday looks great with light local offshore breezes from the north that should tend variable into the afternoons.
Next week onwards (May 25 onwards)
The surf will continue to ease into Monday and Tuesday with exposed breaks across the state fairing the best, along with locations east of Melbourne.
Winds are due to be from the north again Monday, tending variable into the afternoon, with N/NE winds through Tuesday.
The long-range and inconsistent W/SW groundswell due for Wednesday is still on track, although the size has been downgraded just a touch.
The swell is due to peak through the afternoon, with most spots on the Surf Coast coming in at 2ft, with the odd bigger 3ft set at swell magnets.
The Mornington Peninsula should build to a very infrequent 4-5ft, with the possibility of the rare bigger bomb.
Fresher local offshore winds (N/NW Surf Coast and N/NE Mornington Peninsula) are due Wednesday, with N/NW winds Thursday as the swell eases.
Longer term a larger mix of SW and W/SW groundswell are on the cards for late in the week and weekend as a strong node of the Long Wave Trough moves in from the west, but more on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
Comments
It would be good to let the Victorian surfing community know that the indigenous surfing comp is on at Bells this week so they can go and watch or plan their surf around it. Katie
Thanks Katie, they've got a cracking swell for the final day!! Forecast up in 5.
