No surf until the weekend
Southern Tasmanian Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday June 12th)
Best Days: Today, Saturday, Sunday morning
Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)
- Tiny surf this week
- Inconsistent W/SW groundswell for Sat with strong N/NE winds, easing Sun with fresh N winds
Recap
The swell picked up through the weekend with a mix of inconsistent W/SW groundswell and more consistent mid-period W/SW swell energy in the water Saturday, building from 2-3ft in the morning.
The swell backed off into yesterday, a little more than anticipated leaving smaller 2ft+ waves, down to 1-1.5ft today.
This week and weekend (Jun 13 – 18)
Make the most of the easing swell today as the coming outlook is unfortunately, as touched on last week, very slow.
The westerly storm track will be focussed up and towards Western Australia, with a slow moving Southern Ocean gyre directing front after front up and into the Bight.
This will be mostly too far north of our swell window, but the initial stages today and tomorrow will sit just within our long-range window.
What will result is some very inconsistent W/SW groundswell this weekend, likely coming in at an infrequent 1-2ft on Saturday, easing back from 1ft or so on Sunday.
Winds will be tricky and strong from the N/NE on Saturday, favouring selected spots, fresh N'ly Sunday.
Longer term, westerly swells are due to continue into next week, but check back here on Wednesday for an update.
