Easing surf tomorrow with small swells to follow
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 20th July)
Best Days: Every morning this week, all day Friday for beginners
Recap
Tiny and clean waves for beginners all weekend, similar this morning ahead of a change.
This week and weekend (Jul 21 – 26)
An onshore change moving through today is linked to a cold front projecting across us, up into the Tasman Sea.
The swell generating properties of this system haven unfortunately been downgraded a little after an upgrade on Friday.
A broad but shortened fetch of strong SW winds are being aimed through our swell window generating a weak 3ft or so of swell for later today, easing from 3ft on the sets tomorrow, though mostly 2-3ft.
Winds should dip back to the W/NW tomorrow morning favouring protected spots and then shifting W/SW from later morning.
A temporary low point should be seen Wednesday morning with offshore NW winds, shifting W/SW through the day again.
This swing in winds will be linked to a strengthening front passing under us, kicking up a small pulse of new SW swell Thursday morning to 2ft or so with similar NW tending W/SW winds.
Following this there's nothing major on the cards with fading surf Friday from 1-2ft with N/NW winds, tiny into the weekend.
Longer term, the storm track will again remain focussed towards Western Australia, with storms dipping south-east through our swell window, which isn't ideal at all. We may see small westerly pulses, but more on this Wednesday.
