Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 13th July)

Best Days: Beginners tomorrow and Wednesday, and then Saturday and Sunday morning

Recap

Saturday's pulse of swell from the polar fetch of W'ly gales came in above forecast with 3ft sets across Clifton, tiny and onshore into yesterday.

Today the surf is cleaner but only small and to 1-2ft.

This week and weekend (Jul 14 – 19)

These notes will be brief as Ben's on annual leave.

There's nothing of significance still on the charts for the coming period with a tiny and flukey pulse of S/SE groundswell due to fill in tomorrow but the polar fetch linked to it was very slim.

With this we're probably looking at 1-1.5ft sets tomorrow and Wednesday morning, fading Thursday.

Winds will take an easterly tendency owing to a strong low forming in the Tasman Sea and drifting slightly south. This will bring NW tending E/SE winds tomorrow and E/NE tending E winds on Wednesday.

Later in the week and on the weekend the charts are showing a long-period W/SW groundswell signal, but these swells have been generated in our far far swell window around the Heard Island and as a result won't offer any size.

Longer term the outlook remains void of any major swell generating systems. A weak mid-latitude low moving across us Monday may kick up a weak windswell for Tuesday, with a possible slightly better swell behind this.

So with that check the East Coast Forecaster Notes for more surfing options.
