Activity starts to increase
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 1st July)
Best Days: Friday morning desperate surfers, Saturday morning, Sunday morning, Tuesday
Recap
Tiny waves both yesterday and today, only suitable for beginners and very long boards.
This week and weekend (Jul 2 - 5)
Tomorrow will remain tiny on the coast, but we've got a slight upgrade in the mid-period W/SW swell due on Friday.
This is being generated by a good fetch of strong to gale-force winds that have formed around an embedded low that's at the base of a greater low moving through the Bight.
This fetch will weaken while projecting east today, while a small polar fetch of weaker winds early tomorrow will also produce a small SW swell for Saturday morning.
Size wise we're likely to see Clifton coming in at 1-1.5ft through the day Friday, possibly 1-2ft into the afternoon, but this will be as a morning NW'ly gives into a SW change as the remnants of the low pushes up past us.
Some weak SW-S/SW windswell is still expected off this front and a secondary slightly stronger system moving through into the evening, though size wise it doesn't look like we'll see much over 2ft across Clifton Saturday and Sunday.
Winds on Saturday morning look favourable and NW ahead of a shift to the W/SW into the afternoon and then W/NW tending W/SW Sunday.
As touched on last update, next week is looking a little more active with a new swell on the cards for Tuesday, generated by a deepening low south of WA over the weekend, tracking east-southeast and into our swell window.
The models diverge a little regarding the strength but we'll likely see fun 2-3ft surf on Tuesday, while trailing polar frontal activity will generate follow up pulses. More on this Friday.
