Mix of swells for the weekend but not the cleanest
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 8th May)
Best Days: Protected spots on the weekend, Monday morning, Wednesday, Thursday
Recap
A fun kick in swell yesterday under gusty N'ly winds, fading back from 1-1.5ft today.
This week and weekend (May 9 - 15)
There's no change to tomorrow's S'ly groundswell, with it generated yesterday by a strong low south-west of New Zealand. A fetch of severe-gale S/SW winds just within our swell window should produce 2-3ft sets across Clifton tomorrow, easing off into Sunday as our new W/SW groundswell fills in.
Conditions still look less than ideal tomorrow with a S/SW change moving through around dawn, though winds should swing W/SW through the afternoon.
We then look to a strong low that's formed west-southwest of us and to the south of WA.
A fetch of gale to severe-gale SW winds will be generated through our western swell window today, with the low moving slowly east this evening and then weakening tomorrow morning.
The W/SW groundswell from the low is expected to peak Sunday with good 3ft sets across Clifton though with fresh W/SW winds. We may see winds ease and tend W/NW later in the afternoon but either way try protected spots.
N/NW tending variable winds will create clean conditions all day Monday as the swell eases from 1-2ft.
The coast will become tiny on Tuesday but on Wednesday SW swell is expected off a polar low pushing up and towards us earlier in the week.
At this stage we could see fun 3ft+ surf Thursday, but we'll have another look at this Monday. Have a great weekend!
