A few fun surf days to come
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 11th March)
Best Days: Thursday, Friday morning, Sunday morning, Monday morning, Tuesday
Recap
Good waves for beginners yesterday and a bit more swell today with great conditions.
This week and weekend (Mar 12 - 15)
Today's first kick in small swells should be boosted a little tomorrow morning, with a secondary more consistent pulse of SW groundswell due.
Waves to 2ft should be seen across Clifton along with a moderate to fresh N'ly tending E/NE breeze as the swell eases.
We then look at the stronger W/SW groundswell due into Friday and all is on track for the swell to build through the morning under offshore winds ahead of a midday change.
This swell has been generated the last couple of days by a distant but strong polar frontal progression and as a result the swell will be inconsistent. The westerly swell direction also won't really help.
The swell should reach 2ft to occasionally 3ft across Clifton through the morning with a N/NW offshore ahead of the S/SW change.
Onshore winds look more than likely on the weekend still with a mix of easing groundswell and new windswell to 2ft+. There may be a dawn W'ly Saturday morning but otherwise expect gusty onshore S/SW winds.
Sunday morning may see an early W'ly with a mix of swells to 1-2ft max.
Our new SW groundswell for Monday is still on track with a strengthening polar low due to generate a fetch of pre-frontal W/NW gales through our swell window, moving quickly east along the polar shelf. This is then due to be followed by post-frontal weaker W/SW winds, with the swell due to peak Monday 2-3ft across Clifton (more consistent than Friday's swell).
Winds should swing N/NE into Monday morning ahead of sea breezes, with the swell fading Tuesday under N/NE offshores. For the rest of the week there's nothing significant due so try and work the coming days of surf.
