Small pulses of surf this week
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 30th December)
Best Days: Beginners tomorrow morning, Wednesday, Thursday morning, Sunday morning
Recap
Tiny beginner waves Saturday and Saturday, flat today. A new inconsistent W/SW groundswell has since hit Cape Sorell and we may be seeing some tiny waves for beginners again this afternoon.
This week and weekend (Dec 31 – Jan 4)
This afternoon's tiny swell is only due to reach 1ft+ or so, coming in around a similar size tomorrow morning and with a W/NW offshore, holding until mid-late afternoon and then shifting W/SW.
Some new mid-period W/SW swell for the afternoon is still on the cards, but only late and more so Wednesday, generated by a mid-latitude front that's currently moving in from the west.
A broad fetch of strong W/SW winds are being produced in our swell window, but size wise we're now only due to see sets to 2ft later tomorrow and 2ft+ Wednesday morning, easing thereafter and 1ft to maybe 2ft Thursday morning.
Winds will be favourable though and offshore with a N/NW tending W/NW breeze Wednesday, N/NW Thursday ahead of S/SE sea breezes, variable Friday ahead of sea breezes.
Following this there's nothing significant due into Friday and Saturday, but a deepening and what looks to be another 'bombing low' is forecast to develop right under and south-east of us on Saturday, with a tight and short-lived fetch of W/SW gale to severe-gale W/SW winds forming late in our swell window.
This isn't ideal but we may see a spike in swell Sunday to 3ft+ but with W/SW tending S/SE winds. More on this Wednesday. Have a happy and safe New Year!
