Lots of fun surf days ahead
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 27th September)
Best Days: Saturday, early Sunday, Tuesday morning, Thursday morning
Recap
Clean easing surf yesterday from 1-2ft, tiny today.
This weekend and next week (Sep 28 – Oct 4)
There's been no change to the inconsistent W/SW groundswell due across the state tomorrow, with Clifton expected to see 2ft to occasionally 3ft sets, easing back in size Sunday. Winds should hold from the W/NW most of tomorrow, favouring semi-protected spots.
A reinforcing W/SW swell for Sunday should keep 2ft+ waves hitting Clifton and an early NW breeze will give into a mid-morning SW change, so aim for the early.
This change will be linked to a weakening polar low moving in from the west, with it currently positioned south-southwest of WA and generating a fetch of severe-gale W'ly winds in our swell window.
The low will continue slowly east this weekend while weakening, with a moderate sized SW groundswell due to arrive from it on Monday morning, peaking to 3-4ft before easing through the afternoon.
Unfortunately winds still look to be onshore in the wake of a broader front moving through Sunday evening, with a W/SW tending fresher SW breeze.
Tuesday is the pick with a N/NW offshore ahead of sea breezes and easing 2ft to occasionally 3ft sets.
Into the end of the week a fun S/SW swell is due later Wednesday but more so Thursday morning, produced by a small polar low developing south-west of us early week.
A fetch of W/SW gales should produce 2-3ft of S/SW swell for Thursday morning along with N tending SE winds, but more on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
