This week and weekend (Aug 15 – 18)
Today's swell will continue to ease into tomorrow, with a small and inconsistent W/SW groundswell due to build into the afternoon and peak Friday.
Only a very inconsistent 1-2ft wave is expected across Clifton with winds shifting from the N/NW to W/NW tomorrow as the swell builds to maybe 1-1.5ft by dark, less than ideal from the SW on Friday, spoiling the swell.
Saturday will be nice and clean with a N/NW tending N/NE offshore but tiny leftover surf to 1ft+.
Longer term we've got an upgrade in the swell due early next week as a strong mid-latitude frontal progression moving in towards WA splits and forms a strong polar low. A great fetch of severe-gale SW tending W/SW winds will project towards us, weakening on approach, producing a moderate sized long-period W/SW groundswell for Monday.
It looks like the swell will come in around the 4ft range but as the progression moves across us, winds look to shift W/SW.
Additional mid-period SW swell will be added to the mix from the front moving across us, with both easing Tuesday with improving W/NW tending NW winds.
Longer term weaker but persistent fronts moving in from the west will generate good reinforcing swells, but more on this Friday.
