This week and weekend (Jun 15 - 21)
Our new SW groundswell pulse for tomorrow is still on track, with a strong low currently pushing in from the west, generating a tight fetch of W/SW-SW gales in our south-western swell window.
The low will slow while passing under us tomorrow morning, resulting in a more prolonged swell event, easing out of the S/SW on Saturday and still solid in the morning.
We should hopefully see Clifton building to 3ft+ tomorrow afternoon, easing from 3ft out of the S/SW on Sunday and tiny Monday.
Winds will be favourable but not perfect tomorrow, light W/NW and variable into the afternoon while Sunday looks excellent with a persistent N/NW offshore.
We then look ahead to our inconsistent long-period W/SW groundswells due through next week.
A distant polar low around Heard Island is currently generating a great fetch of storm-force W'ly winds and will progress east over the coming day, easing in strength well south of WA tomorrow morning.
We should see a good long-period W/SW groundswell from this source, arriving very late Monday and peaking Tuesday morning to 3ft across Clifton, with waits between the best sets.
Winds are an issue though as a front associated with a secondary pulse of W/SW groundswell on Wednesday moves through. A dawn NW breeze is likely, shifting SW mid-late morning.
The secondary pulse of swell will be generated by a slower moving but broader fetch of severe-gale W/SW winds piggy-backing on the back of the original storm and pushing east towards us over the weekend, weakening as it moves under the country early next week.
We may see slightly larger 3ft to occasionally 4ft sets off this swell. Winds look favourable and NW in the morning, SW into the afternoon, but we'll have to review this on Monday. Have a great weekend!
