This week and weekend (Feb 21 - 24)
Tomorrow should start small to tiny but a new mid-period W/SW swell should build into the afternoon, generated by a good elongated though weak frontal system that's currently moving in from the west.
We should see building surf to 1-2ft tomorrow afternoon, easing from a similar size Friday morning.
Winds will unfortunately swing onshore out of the W/SW tomorrow afternoon, light NW Friday morning, tending SW.
Also in the mix of Friday and Saturday should be a small inconsistent SE groundswell from a good fetch of SE gales south-southeast of New Zealand. Infrequent 1-2ft sets are due Friday, fading Saturday from 1-1.5ft but with onshore S/SW winds.
The reason for this S/SW breeze will be a strengthening front south-southeast of us, directing a fetch of strong to gale-force S/SW winds just in our swell window before moving up into the Tasman Sea.
A fun S/SW swell should be seen off this front, building later Saturday and peaking Sunday morning to a good 3ft on the sets with a N/NW tending NE breeze.
The swell will be short-lived and drop right back on Monday, so make the most of Sunday. Longer term there's nothing too significant on the cards so make the most of the coming waves.
