Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 14th March)
Best Days: Saturday morning, late Monday, Tuesday morning, dawn Wednesday, later next week
Recap
Clean conditions with fun sets yesterday morning before an onshore change moved through and some new swell started to show.
This morning we've seen a peak in strong SW groundswell with 3-5ft sets off Clifton and improving conditions with variable winds as the morning sickness sorted itself out.

This weekend and next week (Mar 17 - 23)
This morning's large SW groundswell will ease this afternoon and drop back further tomorrow from 2ft to possibly 3ft early, though conditions will be great with a N/NW wind holding all morning before possibly tending N/NE into the afternoon.
Come Sunday the surf's due to be tiny with strengthening NW winds.
This strengthening NW breeze will be associated with the first of a series of vigorous frontal systems moving in from the west-southwest owing to a strong node of the Long Wave Trough pushing in from the west.
The first front will be too north and fetch too west to generate any major size but a secondary mid-latitude system pushing in south of the Bight Sunday will produce a fetch of severe-gale W'ly winds through our western swell window.
This should produce a moderate sized W'ly swell for later Monday with tiny surf in the morning, building later in the day to 3-4ft.
Stretched out behind this mid-latitude front will be an expansive fetch of severe-gale SW winds, producing a better aligned but still west in direction W/SW groundswell for Tuesday, swinging more SW into Wednesday while easing.
Clifton is expected to see large 4-6ft waves on Tuesday, easing slowly from the 4-5ft range Wednesday morning.
Now, winds will be good and offshore from the NW Monday morning before the swell hits, tending more W/NW into the afternoon, with W/NW tending SW winds on Tuesday.
Wednesday looks to see mainly SW tending S/SE winds, but we're likely to see a dawn W/NW breeze.
Into the end of the week we'll see the swell ease under NE winds, but more on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
